The only time I bought kits from Hobby link Japan was when they were at the Nationals convention in OK city, so it didnt cost me anything in shipping!!

Now I have bought stuff from Hobby Search and it costs me about 1/3 the cost of the kit to ship in 3-4 days priorty from USPO. So a kit thats 20 bucks would cost me around 8 bucks to ship. Almost not worth the cost, since some of the local guys around here are starting to sell Fujimi at 25 bucks a kit.

It seems that this question is asked at least 8 times per week

No it hasn't. I've searched and found a several threads asking about their service, but none on how much they paid for shipping. If you can find one, then please link me to that thread. I know that many people here buy from Hobby Link Japan. Please post the number of kits you bought and how much shipping cost. Thanks!

how about you look at the most logical place? the shipping FAQ on HLJ.com?? it will tell you how much shipping costs for the size and weight of a package. i myself paid AU$25 (like 18 US i think) for 5 spray cans, 1 model (r34), 2 sheets of abbrasives, putty, 2 rolls of tape and knife. I live in Australia so i think its a bit cheaper. compared to LHS, HLJ is a dream. here even a r1 rx7 costs AU$50!!! spray cans cost AU$12 a can and you really don't wanna know how much tamiya tape costs (AU$10 a roll!!!)

Yes I did see the shipping information page here:

http://www.hlj.com/hlj_shipping.html

but there was conflicting information with the rest of the page. For example, this item:

http://www.hlj.com/cgi-perl/hljpage.cgi?FUJ18347

weighs 340g and the shipping estimate is 780 yen via SAL. But, according to the shipping information page, anything up to 400g is 480 yen via SAL. So, which one should I believe?

you seem to be pretty on point for a newbie, for that I'll dig up my old orders to answer your question . I live in Fl. here's some of my orders and shipping costs..

4 sets of wheels and a 3pc GT wingset cost me 3800 yen, shippin on it was 832 yen.

another order..
2 sets of wheels only.. order was 1400 yen, shipping was 588 yen

and yet another..

2 nissan models by fujimi total cost for merchandise 3600 yen, shipping cost was 1320 yen.

these were a couple months ago, shipping charges may have changed since then. should give you a good idea of costs. peace

edit: heres a recent order of yet another nissan model (garage MAK silvia ) this order is from after the shipping charge change. should be helpful to you

one silvia- 2,800 yen... shipping for the silvia- 880 yen. feeling of complete joy recieving a highly cool silvia model- priceless.

Recent order:

AOS29671 1/24 Hi-Lux W Cab Lift Up Pick Up Series #06
1 piece(s) @ 2200 yen each = 2200

Merchandise Total: 2200 yen
Shipping Charge: 880 yen

My question is how long did it take for you to get your stuff? My order was shipped about 12 days ago. It was shipped SAL, anyway to track my package?

thanks

When I order a single 1/24 kit on it's own (rarely) it usually costs either 680 or 780 yen. When I ordered 9 1/24 kits together it cost 3960 yen which works out at 440 yen per kit...much better

Most of the time I try to make big orders so I get stuff for other people...that cuts my shipping cost on my stuff a bit

Here's some of my bigger orders..

16 kits(1/32) + 6 Ebbro diecast(1/43) = shipping 6150 yen

4 kits(1/24) +15 kits(1/32) + 1 kit(1/48) + 6 Ebbro diecast(1/43) + some BMF = 10450 yen

1 kit(1/24) + 12 kits (1/32) = 3160 yen

5 kits (1/24) + 11 kits (1/32) + 1 Ebbro diecast(1/43) = 6150

4 magazines = 7000 yen

5 kits (1/24) + 2 books + 2 Choro-Q's + Set of 5 Tomicas = 5440 yen

This is with shipping to Europe but I doubt the cost to the US would be much different
