shifting problem

my 89 automatic SE is getting stuck in 3rd gear. I've had the trans. valve body assembly, and solenoids replaced. If anyone is familiar with this problem, I can use the help!! I was thinking maybe computer malfunction (the check engine light doesn't come on though), or perhaps a shift linkage problem?

make sure your overdrive button isn't stuck in the off position.

Thanks for the reply BP!!! It's definitely not the overdrive button though. Normally, when I start the car everything is fine until I get to third gear, then have to stop at a stop sign or red light. The trans. doesn't downshift back to first. It stays in third, so the rpm's have to go really high for the wheels to move. The trans. also does not shift up to 4th (overdrive). More often than not, when I turn off the ignition then start the car up again, it will shift normally until it gets to third and it becomes stuck again. I've already dumped $1200 into this problem and isn't hasn't helped at all. I'm deciding what to do about that problem too, (which is with AAMCO). It's still under a 90 day warranty. They said they could fix the problem, but it's exactly the same as when I brought the car in!! I've taken it back on two occasions now and it always ends up getting stuck in third! I would greatly appreciate any advice from anyone who can help. Thanks!
