To clean the brake dust I'd use some Simple Green or Super Clean. Be careful though... Both of those products are known to eat paint. All you do is spray it on there, wait a couple minutes & hose it off. If that stuff doesn't work try some Brake Cleaner. That stuff will clean anything!

Simple Green rocks! Just don't get it in your eyeball.
When I stomped on my brake pedal hard, I used to get a whoom-whoom-whoom sound. I replaced the pads, the rear shoes, and finally the front discs.
It kept happening. I finally figured out it was a front wheel bearing. Once I replaced that, my car got much quieter and now it brakes quickly and smoothly.

If you have an 'open element' (K&N style/cone) fliter you can just wrap a plastic bag around it to keep it from getting wet. Just to be on the safe side, I'd wrap one around the distributor as well...

Re: What the Hell???????

If your e-brake barely works then that means your rear pads/shoes are shot or its out of adjustment - which should be done about every year. Also when you clean/lube/adjust - that usually makes them last longer.

DO NOT heat up new brake pads(unless performance pads) Drive normal on new pads for atleast the 1,000 miles.

The best way to remove brake dust from non-painted surfaces would be a wonderful invention called BRAKE CLEANER. To clean remove oil, brake cleaner works or degreaser.

Replace your v/c gasket & slash guards(they were there for a reason)
