Pinging problem
I have a '95 Civic LX, D15B7 motor, auto trans, 110K miles, Amsoil full synthetic 0W-30, no oil burning. I am trying to diagnose what is causing pinging during medium acceleration. If you accelerate harder it goes away, but it is mostly erratic pinging with medium throttle. I have never had a check engine light come on at any time. Had the car since 32K miles, runs well. I always use 87 regular. This has been getting slowly worse over the past 6-8 months. Gas mileage could be better, I get about 25-27 city, 30 hiway. Timing belt was done at 70K miles. I have replaced the stock NGK plugs (old looked good, slightly sooty), new 02 sensor, and regularly use Berrymans B-12 Chemtool FI cleaner every month/1,000 miles. Coolant temp is fine, thermostat works good. Mileage stays the same. I checked the timing today and it was right on the marks. The service check plug was jumpered for the timing check. Funny there is no EGR on this motor, I looked. Chilton's says only the VX has EGR beyond '92. All vacuum hoses are good, intake has never been apart. I am thinking about replacing the injectors, they may be cruddy or very worn. Possible cause here? Where's a good place to get standard injectors other than paying $$$$ at the dealer's? I need to get this taken care of soon. Thanks for any help!

new injectors are expensive... how long can you go without driving the car? if you can go a few days take out your injectors and send them out to be cleaned... they will work as new and save you a ton when you get them back
this of course is not saying that the injectors are even the problem, just a suggestion if you find that they are

Re: Pinging problem
I can probably manage a week and get rides or use public transportation. Yes, new injectors are horribly expensive. And the service dept. @ the dealer doesn't pull them, they "try" to clean them on the car. Need to find someone locally who does the REAL ultrasonic clean & flush system and checks them completely. I live in Tampa, FL.

Re: Re: Pinging problem
if it's just pinging, you might need to use higher octane gas. The 87 might just not be cutting it anymore. I think when my friend's car started pinging his valves needed to be adjusted, you might want to check on that too.
