how light can you get a 5th gen hatch?
anyone know about hoew much weight can be removed off of one of these, mine weighs about 2100 right now, and i was wondering if like 1700-1800 pounds was possible, I have a 5th gemn now and I dont have to muchmoney into it that i gotta sell it, my bike wil pay for my next car and Im thinking since I have to use power if i have it il make my daily driver somehwta quick and build up a ass whoopin hatch.
I would remove: back seats, passenger seat, no spare or jack or toolkit anyways, no PS, replace dash with tach and a few temp guages for different things, airbagless wheel, no console, no heater or anything, no headliner door panels, seatbelts(except my harness), lots of unneeded wires, other.. I know that doesnt sound like too much but I have another plan for more weight savings but dont know if its a good idea, on the roof between the eadliner and the outer skin, the litle ribs if no weights ever going up there can it be removed, also if i welded some thing to my outer door skin and windo w track so my windows stay up ill remove all the window regulator crap, as wel as door locks, and can the inner door skins be cut out as well, how about the inner parts of the a pillars, I plan on putting in a rool cage though so ina wreck it wouldnt just fold like tin foil. and then I might be geting a tge with a B20 in it already, so ill have a beast of a NA CRVTEC in this, if my teg has the B18 though im gonna throw the b20 in there and go for the H22 in my drag hatch. what has to be done for the H22 to handle boost, i know its a closed deck design already, but the sleeves are thin arent they, the internals would al be built to handle it but if its gonna cost a ton to sleeve it I mgiht be lookign at a B20 again, close the deck, stroker crank, forged internals, headwork and throw a ton of boost on it. for a strictly track car how hard would it be to hit 10's??? boosted B20 on slicks is plenty of motor/traction for this goal, right???

You could lose a whole crap load of weight if you're serious about this. My friend took out all the extra nuts and bolts that your car doesn't need and saved over 20 lbs. All interior panels, seats, exhaust, heavy wheels, ac if you have it, stereo, speakers, spare tire, jack, floor mats, carpet, headliner, 2nd e-brake cable, heating ducts/vents, mud flaps, hard rubber pieces that go over the tires, those are some of the things that my friend removed. He went one step further and removed his front bumper. Just hope you're a good drive and don't run into anything though. He still has the bumper cover on there, so it looks like he has a bumper, but there's no bumper.
I can't say that all this is good for a daily driver though, don't you care about comfort?

Mine is a sedan, but basically the priniciple and things you'll take out are the same: I took off my aircon compressor, aircon fan, floor carpeting and the overhead cover, but I placed a lighter cover overhead since it does get hot. Also took off the trunk interior panel. So overall I estimate that it lost about 50 lbs. I am still looking into taking off the aircon condenser. I think that's the extent of my weight reduction efforts. I still keep the door panels for aesthetic purposes--it looks too bare if I take it off, as well as the speaker panels at back. That's the minimum that you can do, I think, without sacrificing too much. What you plan might be too radical--you do need the spare tire and jack in case of emergency, for instance, as well as toolkit. Those are essentials IMO, and I don't think you'll use your car for track purposes only.

it isnt going to be my daily driver, and you mean he took off the bumper cover and cut away all that metal back there right? Ill do that, I am going to strip EVERYTIHNG possible that I dont ned since it is only going to be driven down a 1/4 mile stretch of road. is it legal to drive wihtout rear brakes on a drag strip since the forns do about all the work and you have a LONG A$$ distance to stop? could I just pop off the drum, and tear out all the inside guts, and then take the drum and hack all the excess off of it and just make it like a spacer so the tire mounts on properly? I might drive it to the track for the first little bit of time when I build it but soon after I finish it Id probably build a trailer and get a nice truck to haul it to the track, sure wish i lived closer though.
