i have an 86 caprice classic with the 5.7 liter v8, and recently it has begun to give me a problem. at first when i start the car and drive for a few mins, it is fine, the when i hit the gas more than just a little, it sputters and stalls a lot. i have this problem on the highway, and goingup hills. I think it may be a clogged fuel filter, or even a bad fuel pump, please give me some feedback

fuel problem is possible but, not likely
check all vacuum lines, cracks on dist. cap and rotor, or a loose carburetor base resulting in a vacuum leak. I would be willing to bet all you need is a major tune-up.

only reason i think it is a fuel filter or pump is because it runs fine in low rpm, and doesnt misfire at all. only has problems during times of high fuel consumption(high rpms)

delay
i hear this is common on high miles wet manifold chevy v8's. i have been advised to clean my intake manifold to fix this problem, altho i haven't gotten to it.

actually reading your post again, my problem is that it stalls at very low rpm, and runs fine at high rpm, so we probably have different problmes.

Sounds like a bad fuel filter. You may also have a clogged catalytic converter.
