Cheaper Lambo door kit.

Ok ive looked everywhere and all the lambo door kits are way too much money. Most of them arent even that good. The best ive seen is from autoloc but the price is still way up their. Im looking for any one who has detailed pictures, diagrams, instructions, or any thing that would make it possible for me to fabricate a more affordable version. I dont currently have my cavy with me so getting any of that information has proven very difficult. In exchange for the information im willing to offer a free kit when its complete, cash, or anything else you might want.

And any one who might be interested in a kit let me know i figure it should only end up costing around $500 which is a quarter of the normal price and once i have plans it will only take about a month to perfect.

go on ebay and just search for cavalier... eventually you'll find somebody that sells the detailed instructions but not the hardware... its only like five bucks...

what do you have done to your car? unless its totally done up with a very nice paint job, body kit, redone interior, chrome rims and all that other rice crap then having JUST lambo doors would look really stupid

its not even the fact that i would have a car with lambo doors its the fact that i would have made a working kit with my own hands and didnt have to pay someone else to do it.

Re: Cheaper Lambo door kit.

its real tough to make your own... ours took two years of development... and remember, people want a warranty, you need custom shocks or alot of cad know-how to try and make store bought shocks work, you'll prob need 2 shocks to do it...

I've watched 9 peopel try to do it and never get past initial cad because they dont realize how much goes into it.

if you have questions, let me know... we've tried to help everyone doing it, just cuz we feel your pain

at first i was having a very hard time trying to figure out how to get the door to go out enough to fit when opening upwards. Then i saw how the hinges on the expensive kits are made and my problem was solved and the rest was easy. Im gonna sell it with everything they need to get it on so going out to find parts wont be a problem. As for the cad it was a little hard at first but as soon as i got the iso drawing done i just split it up into ortho and brought it to a friend of mine who did all the welding. I mean by all means its no where close to perfect yet but im pretty sure if someone can get a kit for around a tenth of retail for a real one the warrenty reall isnt that important. I mean I just put my self through hell trying to figure these damn things out to avoid paying such a high price.

I'd be very careful if I were you. There are companies being sued right now for stealing designs. While I understand the desire for lambo doors, I'm sure it's not worth taking ideas from "expensive" kits. The money you save will be nothing compared to just the cost of a decent lawyer.

its ok im actually in school for design so i know how different it needs to be not to infringe on any patents. I do have one question for you. If you dont mind telling me, how much is your cost to manufacture vs your retail price?

Re: Cheaper Lambo door kit.

sorry. thats confidential information. im not sure any business would give that out. you need to take into consideration that when people buy a product from you they also want a guarantee, supply backup in case something like a shock goes bad, just getting custom shocks made, insurance, legal fees for patents, development time, development costs, building costs, manufacturing costs, setting up a business, licenses... if you are serious about bringing a product to market and not just building a few and letting people fend for themselves with repair you have to figure it all in.

on a lighter note, when you do make a product that works, there will always be a few people that look at it, and say "hey, thats 15 pounds of steel... i could buy that for 20 bucks.... why is it so much?".

These people should be punched

Lambo Door

Ya man thats y companies can't lower the price. I had a convo with my dad who is a very respected buisness man. He told me that a buisness neds to sell its products to make money for the company to cover the additional charges. Such as, the building they work in, the employees, copyright of the plans, etc. Everything they need to be able to seel the company costs money, and if they arn't making enough money to pay that off, then the price gos up. The lambo door hinge is popular, but not sold enough to be able to lower the price. For example, the DVD plaey is now found in most homes. But 5 years ago only a select few people would have had them. Why? cause the price was so high for them. As more people bought them, the companies coud afford to lower the price. Now you can buy what was a $500 dollar DVD player, you can buy a $60 dollar one from wal-mart with a vhs built in it oo. Of course the quality isn't the same but you should now what im getting at. Therefore if a company can sell its product for cheaper if it sells more.

Re: Cheaper Lambo door kit.

Modified Motorsports was having a group purchase on J-Body.org.

I believe it was 500 shipped. I bought my MMS kit secondhand for $425.

Redrum also makes a kit, but the quality isnt as high as MMS.
