My cougar making loud noise, some one help
Hi, I have a beautiful 99 cougar and just recently (since it got a little cold around here) it makes a loud deep humming sound only when the car is cold and or when I turn the defroster on. It sounds like it is coming from the air filter, and when I open the air filter is sounds bad, kinda like that cough drop commercial (rekola) when he blows that long horn. My car idles low and high and wants to die out when sound happens. Can anyone tell me if they have had that problem and or what it could be. Info is much appreciated. I have 49,000 miles

I had the same problem and had it checked out by two dealers. Both claimed at first that they could not replicate the problem but then said it was "normal" functioning. It is related to the air intake and only seems to happpen on cold starts and is worse now in the colder weather. banghead:
