MR2=hard to work on?

are MR2's as hard to work on as i've heard?
they are such amazing little cars, and i would love to pick up an old supercharged one, but i've heard that the mid engine needs to be dropped for any engine work.
is it difficult to work on?

My mechanic has already rebuilt my entire bottom end without tkaing the block out of the car. I do not think the MR2 is any more difficult to wrok on than anything else ... it just works your hamstrings a little more

so you re gonna work on your own car then? well i would say that its a little harder than an average car. depends on what you work on in the engine area, but thats my view on it based on what ive done so far.

yeah, if i were to get one (not anytime soon, i'm lovin the 240), i would do all the work myself. is there anyone who has worked on their own engine?

also, how's the aftermarket? are parts abundant? are they expensive? what about OE replacement parts- are they expensive?

sorry for the n00b questions, just tryin to get a taste of the mr2.

I wouldn't say difficult, just very time consuming. You'll also develope more flexibility, hand dexterity, and a fowl-mouth as you gain experience working on it. The engine is just in an awkward place, thats all. The aftermarket and OE parts support is good. I'd say that properly tuning the alignent is far worse than anything on the engine.

Re: Re: MR2=hard to work on?

ok kid, you need to calm your ass down. when you talk shit, expect shit back. thats how it works. get over it.

o and that install involved a lot more than i was prepared for. i'd explain it to you but you wouldn't understand considering you have never done any work on your own car. i don't claim to be some supermechanic. and i dont act all tough like you. i don't claim to have a fast car. how can anyone say their high 15sec., nearly stock, budget 4 cyl. sports car is fast?

those were some good, thought-out, high school insults that you included in there. keep 'em comin, because i couldn't care less.

What the hell is going on here? i come back to check on AF and this is what i find?
but anyways, the mr2 might be a lil difficult to work on, but the parts and drive train shouldn't be.... right?
i mean it is basically a FF car.

How is it a FF car? It's mid-engined, RWD, hence MR2.

he means that its a transverse engine powering the wheels right below it, very similar to a FF car.
