New here and to racing, have some questions.

I havent ever owned any sport compact car I dont think, I have always driven IROC's and older stangs and chevelle's since I was 12 years old, I am 20 now, anyways I got married awhile back to a girl who likes to buy these compact cars and make them look cool, she did have a 97 civic that was smoking fast, and then she wrecked it awhile back.
anyways 3 days ago she went to buy a new car, I was think maybe an eclipse or something, but she comes back with a 2001 Dodge Neon SE, and wants me to help her sup it up and look cool she says, I dont know much bout this stuff so i was thinking maybe ya'all could help me out, she wants it to be blazin fast, and look sweet, she wants to custom do the interior, and put a muffler to make it sound good on it. I think it has the 2.0 in it, but I am not to sure,.

can I get some help from ya'all?
oh yah also how well then this car perform is sup'ed up? its a automatic also.

thanks

I appreciate it

Welcome,
Well since its a neon it has about 132 hp (assuming its the base 2.0) so its not super fast but enough to get a few speeding tickets. If she's more interested in looks she should decide on a color scheme (what color is the car?) first and than see what would look good with the interior. As for making it faster you can always start with some basic mods (check out neuspeed products) and than move up to the good stuff if you get serious into it, might wanna grab a haynes manual too, they do a load of good when your working on any car.

yikes, I'm assuming she got a deal on it? you can pick up a SRT-4 03 Neon and make them fast with a few upgrades.

Never drove one.. but heard they are pretty damn snappy 13.9-14.1 straight from the factory.

could always turbo it or add nitrous..

Neon's are known for their problems! Had one come into the shop a while back that we had to doctor up for a dealer. What fun that was. I wouldn't buy any neon unless it was an SRT-4.

If you're refering to the SRT-4... it comes from the factory with a turbocharger. Otherwise, I agree.

with an auto neon... i hope she has 72 hours to return it to a dealer. that has less power and an even worse power>weight ratio than my single cam auto 240

turbo is your goal of enlightenment. you need to turbo that sucker. since the neon has the same base engine as a mitsubishi eclipse RS and GS, Hahns race craft makes a turbo kit for that car.

Okay wait, what exactly do you consider "blazin fast"? What did her Civic have done to it that made it "blazin fast"?

...And why didn't you go look for a car with her ?
haha I swear whenever anyone I know is looking I go with them, most of the time they ask me. It's almost like my opinion actually matters to them

Well if she crashed this "smoking fast civic" maybe she should avoid fast cars and stick to driving her neon under the speed limit.

it would be a good idea for her to go and get the srt-4 if she can
other wise the only way to get big power is what everyone has been telling you, turbo!
