transmission problems

my wife has a sunfire with the 2.2L automatic transmission without overdrive. it has recently began to give her problems. it started out not shifting through the gears well, then it started slipping. now you have to rev the engine up to 3000 rpm's to get it to go. has anyone had this problem? is it an easy fix or am i looking at a new tranny? i changed the fluid and filter with no effect. also if i need a new tranny, what other models of cars have the same tranny? thanks for the input!

That is exactly what my car is doing right now. I see you posted again saying you replaced the tranny. Can I ask how much it ran you? I know it prolly wasn't cheep and I know I am going to have to shell out plenty to get it fixed. I would just like a number to go by. If you can help it would be great.

Re: transmission problems

just what it says, they re-build the transmission, they take out the old pieces and replace them with new, but only the pieces that the transmission needs, the parts that wear out usually like valves, clutches, bands, and stuff like that.
