upgrading my 96 stock sentra

Hey all, Im new to this forum and I need help. I recently bought a 96 sentra and I was wondering what king of mods can I start of with so I can keep up with these civics. Now the previous owner had and after market muffler and lowering springs already and a air filter what else can I do with a moderate budget. thanks

Re: upgrading my 96 stock sentra

Intake, header and exhaust are the first mods most people do.
Find a nice CAI by AEM or Injen, hotshot header, and a real exhaust, not that aftermarket muffler crap, that does nothing.

Re: upgrading my 96 stock sentra

I usually make all my mods myself. Just think, dual exhaust... dual intake (mine will be a combo cai and wai, hopefully soon to be dual cai), spark plugs, performance fluids, yada yada. I made a dual Cherry Bomb exhaust system for only $80. You might think they'd look like crap, but they are pretty sweet...

Re: Re: upgrading my 96 stock sentra

You can't do dual exhaust on most sentras unless one of the mufflers is just strapped there and not hooked up to anything, there's zero room for piping.

Besides you'll lose power and make your car heavier with that much piping.

Re: Re: Re: Re: upgrading my 96 stock sentra

ok, I don't know what I'm talking about....

and take pics of that "madd phat j00 $80 dual cherry bomb exhaust" on a sentra would you?

I like how all of these companies are spending thousands of dollars researching the best, most efficient exhaust systems possible and spending months of R&D to pull the most hp out of the car, but obviously they don't know anything because you and your handy welding torch can make one for a fifth the cost that makes more power and manage to mount it in a way that no one has ever been able to do before....keep dreaming.

and you say you have to improvise, what exactly did you do to get it to fit? The only option is to cut off the spare tire well or hang the exhaust piping 3" off the ground

um, you can check out www.ptuning.com and www.optauto.com
I'm not sure if they have anything for your model but they have a pretty good selection for most cars out on the road.

^that was about the dumbest thing I've ever read...
first off, most companies do what they can to sell you crap that looks good. If you want your car to have that 'professional' look, then sure, pay a few hundred dollars for a cat-back system. Thing is, I couldn't care less what my car looks like.
second, maybe you should look underneath your car... look how everything is shaped. now tell me there is no room for dual exhaust. suggesting that you'd have to cut out the spare tire well to make room for it is just... well... dumb. in fact, it doesn't even get in the way. there is also plenty of ground clearance for the piping (duh)...
I don't have too many pics up, but you can see some at http://members.cardomain.com/holoskull

what really sickens me here is that I bet you are some rich kid that has never even touched a tool in his life and always takes his car in to have modified. then you think that just because you have some rad car you know w.t.f. you are talking about and try to share your 'expertice' with others. get in touch with reality dammit and take into concideration the ideas of others!
then again, on a more sensative note, I could be wrong about this...^^^

Re: upgrading my 96 stock sentra

I have looked under my car, many times, maybe on your model there is room but on mine there's not a chance in hell you're fitting anything on the driver's side. If you want I can go out and take a fucking picture

Who do you think you are attacking me? You don't know a god damned thing about me.

"I bet you are some rich kid that has never even touched a tool in his life and always takes his car in to have modified"
Just because I disagree with you makes me a rich kid who can't do anything myself? WTF is wrong with you? Did you drop out of elementary school or something? Only one mechanic has ever seen the underside of my hood before, and that's because he was removing a stud I snapped when installing my header. I would have done it myself but I don't have the tools or the time when I'm studying my ass off in college. The fact of the matter is, you don't know a damn thing about me yet you think you know everything. Atleast I'm not the one claiming I got a huge boost in power from an exhaust system on a sentra. Go back to clubsi

Try www.nissanforums.com....there's a section specifically for your car there...by the way, we have the same body style B14, though mine is "slightly" different than yours now due to some mods.

Re: upgrading my 96 stock sentra

and besides, what's the point in doing dual exhaust on a sentra in the first place. It's no different than a single exhaust with larger piping, it's impossible to have a true dual exhaust on any car with an inline engine.

Not that it would make much of a difference in power compared to just a bigger diameter exhaust, but IF you could fit two pipes in there, you could make each pipe do 2 cylinders exhaust output. And if you did make any gains, the weight of the pipe would nullify it or make it worse. Not worth it to actually have 2 pipes, specially on a 4 banger. Plus you would need a custom manifold, and more cats if it were going to be emissions compliant. Too much weight, and your car would sound even more like a lawn mower, most likely. Just like sr20de4evr stated, no point. That and both of the pipes would need to be smaller diameter than the stock probably, just to keep backpressure up to a level with no backfire. I'm not sure why a dual cai would help either, you only have one manifold, for all FOUR of your pistons, and all the air you might get in there would have to channel through the throttle body anyways.
