it depends on what year tiburon you want. and also trust me its not cheap to get any 4 cylinder to get 500hp. 500 is alot of power even to v8 guys. and for cars our size, its insane. even for a car that is already turboed from the factory to hit 500 hp is not cheap. for those cars you would need to upgrade to a bigger turbo which will cost a few thousand. and since you got no turbo to start with to make the car handle 500hp you need to strenghten your bottom end which will cost around 2500. then you need to get a big turbo that can make 500 hp which is usually a T66 or a T04R. anyways thats another 4000-5000 for the kit. then you need fuel systems. which is another 500 atleast. the fuel system includes fuel pump, larger injectors, retuning of larger injectors. custom fuel rail, adjustable fuel pressure regulator. now you need to run a either a retuned ecu or a stand alone because your air flow meters would be maxed out at like 250hp so you need to use a larger air flow meter from antoehr car. the air flow meter alone will run you a few hundred bucks. plus it won't plug right into your car. that is why i said you need to get yoru ecu retuned to use that meter. then finally if you run standlone you need to dyno tune it. to tune usually is around 500bucks. so total your looking at atleast 10K. and that is if you know what your doin.

this one dude i know has a 400hp sentra, spent about 12000 including cost of the car. and i think that's because his dad is owner at nissan and he gets free labor.
another 100hp, i'd say it will be at least another 10000, and it depends what engine it is. you're best bet to get that much hp is probably a high displacement v8, or some crazy imported jap engine. or get your hands on a grand national and put about 10000 in it.

another thing about the tiburon is that its goin to be very hard to source out parts for it. i dont' think anyone makes sleeves or low compression pistons, and forged rods for that motor. even the newer tiburon will have a hard time finding parts to build the motor up. but you can always go custom and make your own.

go or no go on the tib? so far looks like no go, since i also want to do some interior and exterior detail work(though i did find a pretty sweet body kit for a little over $500) $10000 into the engine is a little pricy for me, are there any small things i can do to it to increase the hp for cheap? I dont know much about engines(i cant even spell it right i dont think
) so going custom is totally out of the question, and im going to have to pay for labor since i cant install myself.should i go with the tib or try and find another car for cheap?????

ok, i was on carmax and found a '98 eclipse GS for $8,998 w/ 63k miles. i heard eclipses were mechanical nightmares but would this be a good choice? i still want to tune the engine but im worried the eclipse's cant handle anything too big. i also found a '99 tiberon w/ 46k miles for the same price. which would be the best choice not only for engine tune ups but exterior and interior styling, i want to make it like a show car but still be fast as hell so i can kick the asses of all the people with riced civics at my school(about 6, lol) plz help me!!!

hmm in my experience i find that show and go is very expensive, you're better off choosing one or the other. As far as cars go.. the old 4 cylinder tibi's aren't that fast and have very few aftermarket parts, the eclispe GS is just a heavy RS with the a N/A 420A, its more of a looks car and has an aftermarket parts but don't expect to be fast without sinking in some major dough (also you'd get walked on by 1st gen neons that have the 420A with the head on backwards from yours, yes i'm partial i know that but its true). For your first car i wouldn't pick anything that requires high maintenance (ie turbo kits, nitrous, etc.) stick to N/A bolt-ons and pick something that you can learn from.

for under 20K something fast... How about under 10K... do what I did, although you probably wont like it cause its a civic. but here it is anyways. these prices are ballpark
92 civic hatch: $2500 gsr swap: $3000 installation: $800-1000 (since you cant do it yourself) costum exhaust:$500 (nothing bolt-on will fit) ----------- ~$7000 and you got yourself a 14second car. ofcourse then there's suspension, rims and whatever else you want is additional. on more thing. Horsepower doesnt mean anything. I beat 5.0 mustangs with my 180hp 1.8L vtec riceburning civic. You also want a lightweight car, I dont know about tiburons, (which I would never ever get) but eclipses are very heavy, and if it is not turbo ( gs-t or gsx) I wouldnt get it. And yes they are mechanical nithmares, specially their trannys. |

Maybe an MR-S? Quick stock very fast with just bolt ons and looks real sexy with the right body kit (I like the Trial kit). Someone in the toyota forum said they are running 12.5s with just bolt ons because the cars are so light. And its a MR set up so you know it will handle great.
Also a miata?

if you want 500hp you can do it with a turbo eclipse. the 4G63 can handle that kind of power if its tuned right. those motors are generally indestructable. the extra money that you spend on buying a turbo eclipse will more then pay off if you plan to upgrade it. but eclipses do have a few problems. their transmissions being one of them. and their interior tends to fall apart.

ok, thx for the advice, but i dont think im gunna get a civic any time soon. i wanted this car to be out of the ordinary, u know, something really unique and cool. i dont think ive ever seen anything done to a tib, and its fairly cheap, so i thought, what the hell, ill try. there are at least 5 "slammed" civics at my school, so if i do get one, it would look like im just copying them. as for going one way or the other with the show car/race car thing, im gunna get the performance mods first, and then after i have what i want, ill work on the aesthetics of the car(if i have the money).

what about a celica???
http://www.importmodifications.com/262087_7_full.jpeg http://www.importmodifications.com/celicarx7frnt2.jpg i actually think im gunna go vice versa on my last post and say aesthetics first, then performance. this way i can do everything i want to the exterior then start the engine in pieces Last edited by evoLover1287; 10-14-2003 at 03:04 PM. |

If you can get even 200whp without adding a whole lot of money to an older (4cyl.) Tiburon and make it reliable. I will be very impressed. Just dont dream of getting anywhere near 500, not even 300hp. |
