Power Steering fluid on cap?
Was checking around under the hood when I noticed power steering fluid on the outside of the cap in the "pockets". There seems to be a tiny outlet on the cap that it sprayed out of. The power steering system seems to be more noisy than usual, especially near the end of travel. Anyone seen/have a similar leak?

Re: Power Steering fluid on cap?
My 95 Windstar does the same it tends to purge oil or squert oil when I turn the wheels lock to lock i.e. at the end of travel oil is squerted out.
What is the mileage on your vehicle?? mine is 114,000. |

A small amount of fluid can be normal, if it is all over the tank then Maybe it is overful. When the unit makes noise or squirts out fluid, this is normal, turning the unit to the end of it's limit is actually putting a load on the pump and since the fluid circulates, when at the end of the travel there is nowhere for the fluid to go. so it will back up into the resivoir. Check the owners manual for the proper level or better yet I believe there are markings on the outside of the tank.

This will also happen if you turn the steering wheel when the engine is off. This happened on my old '96 Windstar and it sprayed about 1/2 pint out. I haven't seen it yet on my '01.
