I'm new to car modeling and is not familiar with the traditional techniques of modeling, I have recently finished an Initial D Altezza SXE10 1/24 Scale Kit. I am a beginner and I'm not very good at modeling. So far I only have paintbrushes and I'm doing OK with them, but I found that it's hard to make it really smooth and keep the layers balanced. My car I would say is OK for the first one I've ever made. Is there a special technique I should use when modeling with paintbrushes. I use Tamiya brushes and tamiya paint, I also have the thinner, please give me some tips because most of the posts are all about airbrushing. HELP!
I am planning to maybe start a 1995 Toyota Supra made by AMT, I heard AMT is not a good company is that true? And also I have had little problems with the dust getting onto the car when I am waiting for it to dry. I will see if I can post a picture of my finished model in this thread later. Welcome!
I suggest you read the FAQ to learn about painting techniques (ie spray-cans). Everything in there is all you need. -Seb |

The FAQ will definatly help you out!
AMT isn't a bad company, some of their older models are very well tooled w/ really detailed engines, but for the Supra some errors are present in my kit, and probably in yours too so don't be too suprised if something dosen't fit wrong. Most importantly, don't give up.

Here is my first model
Hey guys, I don't think I did a good job on my first model, I used tamiya brushes, tamiya acrylic paint, testors paint, testors paint thinner and tamiya paint thinner..
Here they are, I'd like some comments and tips you can give me if possible? If you can see it, the roof of the car is not that good. Don't know what happened, too many layers? TELL ME WHAT YOU THINK PLEASE! |

Re: Here is my first model
That looks pretty good, but why did you make the side skirts a different color. Just keep working at modeling and you'll get better.

Re: New to Car Modeling
You just have to keep practicing. When I use my air bursh, I do things differently than you do with a spray can. I do a few really light layers, kind of far from the body, then you just go and hold it down and keep the airbrush moving at all times. Never let it stop unless you aren't on the body. I spray pretty close. You just have to mess around a bit and see what ways help you.
