Smile I'm new here and I will eventually own a Diablo

Hi everybody!

I'm new in this forum and I subscribe here because I'm a real exotic sportscar enthousiast and because I am planning to eventually buy one of my four favorite exotics: a Lamborghini Diablo!

My goal is to get three of my favorite four which are:

1- Mc Laren F1

2- Acura NSX ( already done )

3- Lamborghini Diablo

4- Campagna T-Rex ( almost done! )

You now understand why I wrote 3 of four!

So I expect to get interesting informations from owners here.

Thanks in advance,

with all my respects

effer

P.S. My first dilemma is to decide which one. I think I am attracted with the SE 30th anniversary.

Question: Is it an illusion, I have the feeling that its nose is more angled ( inclined ) than the previous Diablos? Am I right? I know about the front spoiler changes are obvious.

I read the thread about SE 30 changes and they didn't mention about the front bumper's angle... ( I made my homeworks and used the search! )

Anybody could answer my previous question in my P.S.?

Is the front bumper on a SE 30 more angled than original one?

Questions:

1- In case of buying original version is it possible to change dash and switch for a newer one ( say 94 and + version ).

Because I find the console behind steering to be "not very nice".
Seems to be very high. Does it block vision?

2- Can we find 6 speed gearbox to upgrade in every Diablo versions?

3- If I want to upgrade braking system, what are the good choices?
Brembo I presume...

About the clutch?

4- I want a 2wd Diablo as light as possible. So what would you suggest me?

Anybody ever heard of people modding their Diablo with aluminum tubular frame?

Cheers everybody

Welcome effer,

I have always noticed a difference in the SE30's nose, and If you look from the side you would notice the angle you are talking about, its a slight difference but I felt it too. For the dash, yes you can change it for any diablo model, I have seen this. And yes, the dash is a bit high and its hard to see whats close to the front of the car, you can see whats a bit further ahead. For upgrading to 6 gears, I doubt that, because this means you have to remap and redesign the whole system to adjust the engines torque to suit the six gears. Normally a diablo is so strong it does not need 6, 5 are even MORE than enough, to be more clear, it even does not need the 1st and the 5th, 2,3, and 4 are enough to reach 240 km/h ! of course you need more, so the fifth takes you to the fastest speed you can reach. For the brakes, as you guessed, brembo are the best. To have the diablo as light as possible, look at the GTR, they have carbon fiber parts replaced in most of the cars body, aluminum too. Take off the AC, sound system, the leather trim, the deletion of the rear muffler box loses almost 100pds.
, the 4WD system (180 lb.), the heavy wheels replaced by light weights, the power steering, and DO THE MATH! you have to sacrifice luxury for performance, though I would keep all what I just said, and add twin turbos, and enjoy luxury with power!!

Thanks a lot Lambo Maniac!

Purchasing an early Diablo I would definitively change the dash.

I am looking for the lightest possible configuration but not at the expense of removing luxury equipment as A/C, leather trim,...

Having a blast is nice but doing it in comfort is ...priceless!

Question:

Anybody could describe differences between 4wd and 2wd Diablos while pushing them?

I look at our local Lamborghini dealer here in Montréal, there is a red 30SE for sale with only ZERO miles ( km here in Canada ) at the odometer !

But unfortunately they tend to ask undecent prices comparing to US prices.

asking price: 375 000$ can which mean: more than
281 000$ US !!!

I understand that this car is exceptional but...

At Dupont Registry there is used ones in the 147K$ to 160K$ range.

So I think that I will buy it in your nice country folks!

Any suggestions?

If I had the money I would be doing basically the same thing, as the Diablo SE30 Jota is my favorite. Always loved the body on it, and yes its slightly angled in the front. The front bumper is inclined also to give it that longer front, more aerodynamic look. The SE30's are old, and youll be happy to own. Compared to other Diablo's, the SE30's engine just roars crazier then other Diablos. I would also be considering upgrading the whole car, but then it takes away what it was made for, SE30 was made lightweight, to be very light, and faster than other, ofcourse to celebrate Lamborghinis 30th Aniversarry. As you know the windows only open up so little, AC is not available, and it uses alot of carbon fiber parts. All add up to save weight.

If I had the money, I would be getting an SE30, with the newer dash, and the engine upgraded to Jota performance, normal Diablo windows to open all the way, AC, nice Alpine sound System, upgraded brakes.

The car itself is just gorgeous!! If you do get to own one, your not gonna regret it, trust me.

And about the gears, there is no need for a 6th gear, as he said before, the Diablo is extremly fast with 5 gears, its plenty of power and speed. Youll be doing over 110 kph in 1st with the SE30, and the sound of the engine will just get your heart beating faster and faster.

The manager at Lamborghini of Ontario has an SE30, 1 of 3 in Canada I believe. He upgraded it to Jota which now makes it illegal to drive but I seen it many times, its a GORGEOUS silver one, anyone who was at the 2003 Canadian International Autoshow should have seen it.

The price for an SE30 to be that high is crazy, its worth it with only 0 miles the marrier it is. But you can find alot of them across the US for much cheaper. As you said, Dupont Registry has some nice ones on their website, and for some good prices too.

So, good luck buddy with your search for one, hope you have the time of your life if you get one

Hey you live in Montreal, I am in Toronto, I go to Montreal every year, maybe if you get one you could give me a drive? loll....

This is very interesting and I too would consider to change things. I am kind of reluctant to use the word upgrading because as you said, this is away from what it was made for...

About the sound this also a plus. I think engine sound is important, and part of the driving ecstasy.

What newer dash are you referring? The one of 6.0 Liter version?

Have no idea, though how much it would cost to make such changes.
Might be very expensive and perhaps not worth the costs...maybe.

Like every Diablo IMO!
I know! I am absolutely sure about that!
Did you have the chance to drive one? Or something similar?

Over 110 km/h in first! Wow! I knew that Diablos were able to get to the 100 mark in first but 110! Very mean...

Obviously with plenty of torque this isn't very surprising but I'm maybe as maniac as F1 drivers I guess, with their 7 gears for a 900 hp and 700 lb ft engine!!!

They did the same thing with a few 25th anniversary Countach: I heard they wanted over a million for a package of three with 0 miles...

Another advantage to buy in the US: choice.

Thanks a lot jota^7!

The time of my life would be to acquire a Mc Laren F1 but the stuff we're talking about here is a pretty good aproximation!

It will be a pleasure when I'll own one. In the mean time, if a ride in an NSX could make you happy while in Montréal, this could be considered as a kind of advance!

I'm not the kind of snobbish guy because I drive an expensive car, I'm more on the enthousiast side guy willing to share his sportscar passion with pepole able to appreciate it. It's like good wine, so fun when you can open serious bottles because your guests know how to taste them!

Hey,

(What newer dash are you referring? The one of 6.0 Liter version?)

About the Dash, sorry I forgot to mention which one, I meant the 99 type Dashboard, love the way they look, same as the SV Dash, makes the car have a better (newer more exotic) look to it.

(Did you have the chance to drive one? Or something similar?)

Well, might sound a bit stupid for you to know but I am only 17, the only car I got to drive that even comes close to an expensive car is a Hummer H1, other than that, Toyota Tercel, Acura Integra, Saturn SL2. Nothing will ever come close to a Diablo in my life, until one day hopefully I can get a ride in one. I can only wish to get the chance to sit in one and get a ride in it.

(Over 110 km/h in first! Wow! I knew that Diablos were able to get to the 100 mark in first but 110! Very mean...)

Yes, I have heard some stories from one of the Mechanics at Lamborghini of Ontario over here, he told me himself that when he was bringing the car back to the dealership from a track event of Lamborghinis/Ferraris, some people in a Civic were following him for like 10 minutes, they kept on waving at him and he said when they came up beside him, "I gave them a show theyll never forget", and he stated dropping from 4th to 3rd at high rpms, he just let it rip...

(Another advantage to buy in the US: choice.)

Yes that is correct, you get the chance to choose what colour you want, how many miles, condition etc.. and most importantly the sticker price.

(It will be a pleasure when I'll own one. In the mean time, if a ride in an NSX could make you happy while in Montréal, this could be considered as a kind of advance! I'm not the kind of snobbish guy because I drive an expensive car, I'm more on the enthousiast side guy willing to share is sportscar passion with pepole able to appreciate it. A ride in an NSX would be VERY appreciated, hey a car is a car, but a Lambo is a Lambo, nothing can come close until your SE30 NSX should do just FINE!! But depending on when you get your SE30, I probably wont be in montreal maybe until April or some where around that. And yeah, you do seem like an EXTREMY NICE guy!!! Which in other words is VERY RARE for someone who owns fancy cars such as a Lambo, there are only a handfull of nice Lambo owners.

By the way, Christmas is around the corner, get your self an SE30 as a Christmas present!!! hehehehe

Hi and welcome to AF!

I've always liked the SE30's front more than the other Diablo's, it looks more agressive.

Good luck one getting the SE30. Sure it's a lot of money, but with 0km, I would say it's worth it.

Absolutely not! Enjoy your youngness because time goes so fast.
Being young gives you the chance to plan better because you have the time on your side!

I'll tell you what, when I was 16-17, I was dreaming about the Countach, and I just couldn't imagine myself to being that lucky to ever drive one day that dream exotic sportscar. Imagine to sit or drive a 100K$ car in 1980 when house's prices were about 30K$!!!

Since that day, I never had the occasion to drive a Countach, but I did drive a Diablo 6,0 Liter!

So what may appears unattainable today might well be on your reach later.
I know that it is not every body on this planet that can say they have driven a Diablo but when you have a dream and you stick on it everything is possible.

I hope the day you will ride in one you will still think that nothing will ever come close. I say this because sometime people are kind of disapointed after they have realized their phantasme. Imagination is often stronger than reality.

But if you need it so much, go ahead, and work hard to realize your dream. Keep in mind your goal and take the right means to achieve it.

I don't know exactly when I'll buy my Diablo this could go from months to years but I have almost taken the decision to get one. So when I'll be sure about this decision I'll own one. I am like this, almost nothing can stop me when I'm decided.

If I go first with the T-Rex, I'll have to wait a bit...
With that machine with the right tires you can do 0-60 in less 3,6 sec.

Cornering also at 1,9 g !!!

This is simply awesome... Unfortunately, top speed isn't fantastic
( around 220-240 km/h so 137-150 mph ). With a Diablo you can without any doubt claim some top speed supremacy on the road!

Any good local websites to suggest me?

Hi! Thanks!

I'll take a look at it and tell you more...

Hey effer,

Hope u buy the diablo as soon as possible...as he said before, u seem to be one of the nicest people who will own an exotic car. Anyway, for a website, maybe www.mobile.de could help, other than that, ebay.com is another source. I would not go for a T-Rex, it is not compared to diablo in any mean.
Congratulations in advance for your new baby, assuming that u made your mind from now

Enjoy life..
