Got a 32 error code with my 96 GLE
My 96 Maxima got a 32 error code When I was on highway after several hundreds miles of continuous driving. But I did not observe any abnormal thing except the damn light. After I pulled out the error code and found it's EGR malfunction, I reset it and it's off. I drove it pure locally for about 100 miles and everything looked fine. I got a little more than 18 MPG for all local driving. So I think it's OK. But today when I hit the highway, the check engine light was on again after about 20-30 miles at about 60 MPH. I think I felt a little hesitation when accelerating in the low speed area, say from 20-40. But it could be just my feeling. I have not pulled out the error code again because it's late today. But I bet it's still 32. I guess perhaps it's something in the exhausting system, which is affected by the temperature of exhausting gas, like some kind of overheating. A friend said it could be a broken catalytic convertor. But I think a 96 car is still pretty new for a broken catalytic convertor. Does any friend here have any idea what could be wrong? Any suggestion will be greatly appreciated. Thanx.

Change your EGR valve.

That's also what I got in mind after searching the Internet. But I currently don't have a factory repair manual by hand. Would you please tell me where the valve is located?

I went to the autozone site and found this...UNDER HOOD, CENTER, DRIVER SIDE, MOUNTED ON UPPER CENTER DRIVER SIDE OF ENGINE
Its around the intake manifold, towards the rear.(firewall) you have to look for it, but you'll find it. |
