09R and 018R

(I did a quick search and didn't find anything, but if this has already been discussed please direct me to the thread.)

According to the chart that comes with Driving Ambition, cars 09R and 018R were never raced. 018R was apparently run by Team Bigazzi and 09R was never with any team. How come?

hindsight, heh? I now know, as most of you probably knew a long time a go, that 09R is probably the West Mclaren promotion car and that 018R did take part in races, just not championship ones.

Why though do we know so little about 09R. It aint mentioned in driving ambition and i haven't seen any pics of it apart from the ones stowed away in a corner of the factory. surely someone knows something, especially since it's supposed to be a promotional car you'd think you'd see it out and about once in a while?

Re: 09R and 018R

You know how it was used and you know where it is. I can add that when I was there last year, it was available for sale. Extensive work would be required to make it comfortable for the street, or raceworthy.

I think it's going to sit there for a while.

I don't really track chassis numbers, so I don't know. Sounds right...

But the silver car tucked away in the corner was the one in the Adrenaline program. It's been used hard and was never finished to a high degree. It's got a roll cage. If you remove it, you will need to cover up/fix the mount points.

It was used to give very high speed laps around tracks. The suspension is probably a race suspension, which would be very uncomfortable on the street.

It's been a long time, so I am guessing the engine needs to be spruced up. I seem to remember being told that the car would need to be gone over thoroughly before it could be roadworthy.

I also remember the interior being in poor shape.

And it needs a complete paint job unless you like the way it looks.

I believe the phrase is "rode hard, put away wet"

If the condition of #09R is still as tvrfreak mentions then it would be a tough sell. Also, the car has no real race history so it wouldn't have any value in that respect. The only thing it really has going for it would be the fact that it is the last '95 GTR produced. I'm not sure you'd be able to sell someone on that fact alone though. Unfortunately McLaren doesn't need the money so there will never be a discount garage sale from what I can tell. If I had a few hundred thousand I didn't know what to do with it might be fun to make them an offer.

As far #18R - I really don't have any info on that car outside of its appearance at the two Brazil promotional races. I'm sure someone swiped it up after that - possibly Nelson Piquet himself?

i have heard of discount sales though.
i was on pistonheads lately, and jon dokic said, he bought his car of the list, for less, because all the businessmen were pulling out.
his car later went to his son fyi, his name's jared dokic.
anyone knows his chassis#

Peloton, I believe the car is still in South America.

Maarten, noone has any info on the dokic car. He has refused to provide any info, except to give a chassis number that clearly has belonged to someone else here in the US. So we don't even know if this guy is for real.
