center taillight piece

Ok, process of painting my tails all red has begun. I got transparent candy apple red paint and a bottle of clear coat. I got the two outside taillight pieces off. Now I'm just wondering, does the middle red piece on an 89dx hatch come off? Or do I gotta tape off my hatch and paint it while it's on the hatch? I can't seem to see any ways that it would come off. Gonna go clean the other pieces while waiting for someone to reply. Peace.

it comes off...take off the interior trim pannel on the hatch....then there are 14 or so bolts....10mm.....Then it will come off.....with ease.

well.....not completely.....there is a CLIP right in the middle of the mother.... that clip is VERY tricky....theres no real easy way to get it undone, just stick a flathead under the clip and turn the screwdriver till the clip snaps, just make sure its under the clip and not the accent piece. and do NOT pull on the panel very hard, because there prone to breaking with very little stress
