Problems with amp

Ok I hooked up all the wires, RCA inputs, remote turn on, ground and power wire. It turns on and everything but when I hook my subs up they dont work, now i can feel them move when they turn off and on but no music is being sent to them. Any ideas on what the problem might be?

Re: Problems with amp

Are any lights on on the amp?
that movement you feel is most likely a small DC signal that the amp puts out when they turn off and on, which means the power is probably all hooked up correctly. You have the subout turned on on the headunit correct? On some headunits the sub rca output is off unless you actually go into the menu and turn it on. You might also have the subs wired to too low of a resistance which is sending the amp into protect mode. If that's the case you should have a "protect" light on on the amp.

Yes there is a power light and the protection light, the power light of course is on otherwise I wouldn't know it's on, but the protection light hasn't lit up at all. I think your right about having to turn the RCA output on but I dont know how to do that. My cd player is a 2000 Panasonic, it is suppose to have a remote but I dont have that, nor do I have the manual, so I suppose I'm screwed.

How are you wiring the amp? I know when I tried to bridge my amp to run two 10s on one channel it wouldn't put out any power and the LED went off. The amps was only rated for a certain amount of Ohms and I think once bridged the subs were no longer in that suggested area, so the amp wouldn't run them. Just an idea.

that would be my guess too ...... the load from the speakers is too great (too low of an impedance) than the amp can handle.

No no, it's not my wiring. It's a 2 channel amp, I've got two subs, wiring them directly up to + & -. I had a few friends suggest things to do. I got another question, I press a button on my cd player and it will say like, LED on or off, what's that about??

Thing is I dont have the manual so I dont know how to do that, although I do know where the SHDB button is, so I'll try to mess around with it, thanks.

Re: Re: Problems with amp

My guess is you wired it out of phase A, or you have it on a low pass crossover or you are crossing over all the lows

Re: Re: Re: Problems with amp

if they were wired out of phase they would be moving normally, the signals would just be cancelling each other out and the sound would be weak. It is possible that the sub amp is set on high pass and the output on the headunit is on low pass, so you're actually not sending any signal at all to the subs

No, it's something with the head unit or the RCA cable, which was a brand new one. I spliced an old RCA cable and hooked the wiring up to the speaker wires, plug it into the amp it works, I dont want to leave it this way but there is nothing wrong with the amp, or my wiring, it was either the RCA cable or something with the head unit. I'll leave it this way until I have more time to worry about it.

Re: Problems with amp

Dont bring back old threads, start new ones if you need help.

As for your amp check the sub wiring, you might be running at to low of an impendance. Or check the power wires and sub wires you might be shorting the wires out.

Don't ever look at cars as just imports or domestics. Just because a car is made in a certain country doesn't mean that it is anything like another car from that country. An example of this is Mitsubishi reliability, just because they are Japanese doesn't mean that they are as reliable as a Honda or Toyota.
