2000 grand am hesitating

I have a 2000 grand am that has 72,000 miles on it and its hesitating. Driving on the high way I found myself stepping on the gas and the car was not moving. It eventually slowed down then stalled. I was able to start it again and then it would stall. I have taken it to a mechanic and they couldn't find the problem. They say they checked the fuel pump and filter and that it was fine. They might seem to think that it could be the computer. Before taking it to get the computer replaced I want some advice on what else it can be. Any advice deeply appreciated.

2 things come to mind on a loosing power complaint, loss of fuel pressure or clogged catalytic convertor.
Most likely senerio with your car is a fuel pump.
If you installed a fuel pressure gage and ran the engine long enough, you may see a fuel pressure drop.
The other way is to install an amp meter in place of the relay and measure the amp draw of the pump.
6-9 amps in normal..anything more I would consider replacing the pump.

No Compression

113,000 miles 95 grand am se 3100. No Compression chamber 5... Stalls burns lil oil Not Clouds of smoke shakes and shimmies...Can't belive it . I need a new engine.. my 90 chevy cavalier runs better with 260,000 miles 2.2L 4cycle

try running some Gum-Out Top end cleaner through your fuel, it sounds kind of like one or more of your fuel injectors is blocked...also check your plugs to see if they're gapped right.

I had the SAME problem in my 2000 GT at about the same mileage (60,000 in mine). I could drive for a little bit, then it would lose power, then die. I'd wait for like 10 minutes, and it would fire up, and I could drive for like 5 more minutes. Then it would do the same thing over again.
My fuel pump was the problem. Replaced, and it works fine since then (about 6 months ago). I never changed my fuel filter, and that most definitely contributed to the problem. I DEFINITELY know now to change the fuel filter every 30,000.

Ever have a proper tune up?
Just because the manual says 100,000 miles dont mean it wont need one sooner. Proper tune up is replacing Spark plugs , spark plug lines , fuel filter.
I had to give mine a tune up at 60,000 kms , i was getting the stalling problem and checked my plugs , 3 nodes were burned out , i was getting premature detonation. Once i changed them and the wires and fuel filter , my car was like new again. If your not sure if the car had a proper tune up after you get one , look at the plug wires , factory plug wires have numbers on them (1 , 2 , 3 , 4, 5 , 6) , if you see numbers on the wires , you got ripped off. The new ones are un marked , the tech will have to measure and replace one at a time so he puts them on right. Ask to see the new fuel filter and the old one before they install it , so you know for sure they replaced that as well. As for the plugs , some mechanics think replacing and gaping plugs is a full tune up , its not. I think Merlin could expain better than i can.
