4wd problem

A little bit ago, i took my truck out for a spin, and b4 coming up my snowy driveway, i always switch it to 4hi, which is normal, I switch all the time, but there was no prob untill today, i shifted into neutral, clicked 4hi, set it back in drive, yet the blinker was still flashing, so i switched to 4lo, it did the same thing. I almost didnt make it up my driveway because of the 4wd prob. it was only 2 wheels spinning, i look in my rear veiw mirrior and its snowing from my tires.
Does anyone know what happend, or do i have to make an appointment? Thanks for advice!!! P.S. 4lo still gives rush of torque.

Sounds to me like a transfer case solenoid problem. I would take it to the dealer for diagnosis and go from there. I've not had the pleasure of changing the soleniod so i can't help you there since i don't know if it is a DYI project or not. Good luck

Re: 4wd problem

I have a 2000 1500 and the actuator motor can be bought through Pep Boys or Napa, etc from their 3rd party suppliers - cost arund $200-$225 and comes with a 1 year warranty. Also, gmpartsdirect.com has new for $370. Looks like a simple swap on my 2000.

Re: 4wd problem

If you use the 4wd often sounds like it get rid of the electronically controlled solenoid and replace with an after market cable actuated assembly, It will never fail in snow water or heat, The electronic solenoid will fail when submerged in water or subjected to freezing temps.
