Hi Everyone,
Does anyone know how to run a wire from the under the bonnet into the car wiring compartments under the dashboard? I'm trying to install a radar detector behind the grille of a 3 series, but can't see any way to get a wire from behind the engine into the car. Any help would be very much appreciated. Regards, Hugo |

I'm sure its different for different year 3 series'. On my 89 there is a gromet next to the battery that I used to run my amplifier cables. Otherwise, buy yourself a uni-bit and start drilling away.

It's a 1993 3 series, 4 doors. Been having a look next to the battery and couldn't find anything that would let a wire through, could it be behind a panel that needs to be unscrewed?

Forgive my mis direction then. I'm not sure on a 1993. As with any other car I've ever looked for a gromet to run wires through, the first step is actually identifying the firewall. You can either run from the inside out or the outside in. Remeber to always verify that there is nothing impeding the wire on the other side of the firewall (i.e. ac condensors, heater boxes etc) Most times you'll have to share a gromet with pre-exhisting wires. A small slice with a knife will do the trick. Otherwise like I suggested..... a good unibit and a 12v drill....

Ahh yes, there is a grommet, just needed to punch a hole through the rubber and get the wires through. This one whas on the opposite side to the battery, might be because it's a UK car.
