Question Which engines can you fit into a MR2?

Was thinking of getting a body then doing up the car from scratch with some mates. Unfortunately the car is still pretty expensive here in aussie even second hand for my budget, so thinking about doing it over time and then spread out the costs.
was wondering which engine setup would be best for the MR2?
also wondering what other engines can fit inside the engine compartment of the MR2.?

Thank you.
Also, does anyone in here live in Perth. Australia?

i think the max is arround 800 i for get if it was rwhp or bhp but probably bhp and that is if u do a lot of custom stuff to it...i have seen mr2's with t88 turbos in them which is meant for the supra, not so much mr2...

You can fit many engines in the mr2 Engine bay.My first plan was to drop 2jzgte (supra) but i looked around more and i had to get like a custom Trany all that BS so i was opps to much money. So i thought maybe truck engine i looked at the 5vzfe which is the thocomas engine. but that was to much. When it comes to swaping men its just to damn much money. Unless u have the money. So i just stuck with my motor an beefing it up for Turbo. 5SFE. hope i helped u.

Go with the 3s-gte! It's the easyest to swap, with the most horspower.

jdm 3s-gte engine with transmition, wireing harness, ECU, all computers and sensers - 225hp bone stock wich is a 13 high if you can drive for 1500...

then there are so many affordable and easily found performance upgrades. With bolt on parts (no modification to the engine) you can easily get this engine to perform at 300 hp (Full exhaust, ram air intake, chip, boost controller, turbo timer)

wow you guys dont know alot about the mr2 lol. Drazharted about that rear clip on ebay unless it was a 3rd gen then it's a rip off 2400 for an unkownw clip. jarco.com sells them with the guage cluster for that much and you know the year, milage, etc etc etc. they sell 2nd gens for 2200 with the same options. Ghetto7o2azn I dont know where you saw an 800hp mr2 but it was probably not a real deal lol Jeff at extremeboost.com put down 615rwhp on a Gt35r at like 28psi with nitros no joe shmo on a budget is going to get that much out of a 3SGTE I've seen 512rwhp but your average will be 350-410rwhp. it's an almost bullet proff bottom end the stock internals can handle over 400rwhp you should see the rod jounals thier huge.later
