Fake GN?

Can anybody tell me how i can tell the difference between a real Grand National and a clone T-type?

the enblem in the steering wheel on the GN is the three shields emblem. The t-type had a red T in the steering wheel. Also the dash had the speed six symbol on the passenger side dash. Another thing the headrest in a GN has the speed six symbol on it. If the person has taken the time to do all of this then the only way to tell 100% is the VIN number

The vin won't show a T or a GN, only if the the car is a factory turbo car or not. You will have to check the SPID on the trunk lid and see if it has the code for the GN. Which I can't seem to recall right now but I will locate for you. As far as the "Power 6" logos, the headrest and dash are very easy to change but a good starting point. Also, I believe only the GN came with black carpet, all others could only get grey.

Umm - I beg to differ here. The "T" emblem you see is actually a replacement horn ring from Buick. (The tri-shield insert specific to GNs was not available in the replacement horn ring assembly - you had to order it separately) What you've seen is someone who's horn ring had cracked, (VERY common) and replaced it with that GM Part, but forgot/failed to swap the plastic red "T" insert with their "tri shield" insert. The power-6 logo was used extensively by Buick in general - including the intake dog house on some FWD Buicks - so don't rely on it to tell you what you're looking at is a bonified Grand National.

GN1220 has it right - look for the WE2 code in the history of the vehicle, as some states won't even reflect "Grand National" in the vehicle title.

All "Ts" did come factory with the RED T in the horn ring. All GNs had the trishield.

one thing I have noticed is yes the speed six symbol was used alot but it never was quite the same as the GN one. none of the other ones are really yellow on red
