My 95 is only running in 2Nd gear sometimes. When I put it in neutral and coast then turn it off, wait about 30 seconds, then turn it back on,it will shift normal about 85% of the time.It has to be an electrical poblem.Anyboby ever had this or any ideas?

Your transmission is controlled primarily by electrical signals from different sensors ie(throtle position sensor, speed sensor, engine speed sensor) Additionally, the controls for the transmission are mostly solenoids that either close or open passages in the transmission. Your transmission either has a faulty 2-3 gear solenoid ( excessible after dropping the transmission oil pan), a faulty speed sensor (excessible on the outside of the transmission @$100, or less likely the computer control module or the throttle position sensor. The throtle position sensor is real easy to get to and cost only $25 dollars (located on the intake), so even though it's not likely to be your problem, you can try it with little effort. Next I would go after the speed sensor followed by the 2-3 solenoid. Good luck

I am having the same problem with my truck. As you said it only happens ocasionally. My mechanic has already changed my speed sensor and the problem came back about a week later. He is stumped and I am afraid he is going to start throwing parts at it until he gets the correct one and in the mean time rack up a huge repair bill. I believe it is a bad electrical connection somewhere. Intermitten problems are the worst!!
One thing I didn't mention about my truck is when my transmission has shifting problems my anti-lock light comes on and my speedometer quits working. If anyone has any specific solutions to this mystery problem, please let us know!

fixed

Bad ignition switch.Part costs about $150.Doesn't change your key or anything.Routes all the signals to your guages,Abs,Transmission, etc. That will definatly fix your problem, exspecialy if u can clear it by turning the truck off and on.Dead giveaway.
