Buying used car from private seller

Hello,

I am thinking about buying a used car from a private seller. My question is what is the normal procedure in getting the title transfer.

Also, has anyone had any experience using a loan to pay a private seller? When do you take possesion of the car?

Any help is greatly appreciated.

Its really straight forward.

You go to the bank and get your loan. They will want a copy of the title with their name on it.

Take the cashiers check to the private seller and they will sign the title over to you and to the bank (make sure you put that information on there). Sometimes the seller will want to take the check to the bank and ensure that the money gets deposited before signing over the title. That’s fine. Once that is done, they’ll hand you the keys (you now have possession) and you’ll take that title to the secretary of state office and get the car registered.

Make a copy of the title and take it to the bank.

Happy driving.
