Window vibration
Hi,
I have a 1999 316i. Recently both front windows have started to vibrate a little bit when fully closed. If I open the windows a little, the vibrations disappear. Any ideas why?. Any solutions?. Thanks Lasitha

Dude,
I have an 03 CIC and I have noticed the same thing on the passenger side. When I put the window down just a tad, it goes away. I plan to bring it to the dealer on my next visit. The weather has recently turned cooler here, I wonder if that has anything to do with it. Last edited by sfinnerty; 10-11-2003 at 01:38 PM.

Hi,
I initially noticed it on the passenger side. Then a week later on the driver side. Could be weather related. It first happened after the very hot summer. My car is out of warranty. The dealer wants £117 per hour to diagnose the problem!. Lasitha

Hey,
My BMW suffers from the same. annoying isn't it. The problem is the rubber that holds the window in place when it is fully closed. Holtz and a few others make a rubber conditioner. If you spray this on the rubber arround the window the noise usually stops. Supposedly a common problem.

Hi,
Thanks for that info. I spoke to the parts department of my local dealer. They have a "rubber care kit" which keeps the rubber soft. Is this what you mean?. I've also done a search for a "Holtz rubber conditioner" on Google, but nothing was found. Lasitha

It seems to be very common. I have the E46 325, and experienced the same problem after I had cleaned the car, including the window rubbers, - so I think its got something to do with the rubber lubrication allright. I will get some of the BMW rubber care stuff abd try it.
Where can I get this Holtz stuff?

I've tried the Rubber Care spray from my local BMW dealer. It didn't make any difference.
There is a thread on "alt.autos.bmw" newsgroup (subject: Rattling windows). Someone made the comment that this may be due to loose cables inside the door. See http://groups.google.com/groups?dq=&...Dalt.autos.bmw

I think theres two noisy window issues. One is definitely to do with the rubbers, - my car never made a sound, and rattled furiously from the second I cleaned the rubbers. It has stopped following rubber treatment.
The other is almost certainly loose regulator cables rattling against the glass. Taking the door trim off and securing the cable is the only cure. WB
