First of all, for the past 2 months ive noticed alittle oil on my gasket little by little. Till doday, I notice an engine grind feel from my petal at 4000rms. i got out to see alot of oil on my gasket and checked my dip stick. NO OIL.. So I add 2 1/2 quarts of full synthetic and start the car up. dip stick is full. no oil leak under car or is there any oil on my gasket after alittle test drive. but the little grind feel from the engine is still there when driving at 4000-5500 rpms. Is my motor about to walk?

After crankwalking 3 motors, I might be some sort of an authority on the subject
Oil loss has nothing to do with it, so relax. BUT, running dry on oil (I dont think you were dry) will acelerate the process. So take care and watch it closely. Now tell me, what the hell gasket is it you are seeing oil on? There are a hundred gaskets in there. And is a grind or a vibration? How many miles? when was the tbelt last done?

Re: Did the dreaded CRANKWALK just happen to me..?

Ok here goes, i work 70 miles away from home. Drove all the way to work fine no problems. I decide to take a lunch and hit up the ol wal mart to see if any nov issues of import mags have shiped in yet. on the way there i notice a grindy vibration in my pedal. kinda like you feel when a clutch goes out. but the feel is comming from the engine. when i let the engine idle. I hear a loud ticking like my lifters are going. but when i rev up to 4000rpms i feel a strong grindy vibration in my clutch comming from my motor. going thru 3 clutches so far, i can tell its not my clutch going. so i open my hood and to see oil inside and on my valve cover(its been doing this for a while now, 2 months. drive back to work 1 mile and check my dip stick no oil. i put 2 1/2 quarts in and let it idle. ticking noise is still there. and the grindy vibration i feel in my clutch is still there. my car recently passed 110,000 miles and is the original. used mobil 1 full synthetic every 3000 miles. Im very cautious about my high mileage motor. Im not sure either to get another motor or rebuild the one ive got. If i can get some more imput i can decide what route to take in this matter. oh and last tbelt changing was at 74,000 miles Last edited by SpyderEclipseGst; 10-08-2003 at 03:26 PM. |

the loud "ticking" sound is lifter tick. there is a sludge build up in the ports of the hydralic actuators for the lifters that causes them to tick.( i believe this is correct, if not i am sure 95_GSXracer will correct me.
) all DSM's do it. the port was to small. you will get use to it. not a big deal. www.vfaq.com has a solution to the problem. so if it bothers you i would check there. as for your engine c-walking, thats not it. if your engine has gone 110000 miles with out walking it isnt going to now. |
