Service 4WD Light - '01 Sub

Service 4WD light comes on intermittantly. Have checked diff and transfer case fluids. Suspect auto 4WD solenoid. Any other suggestions? Any help appreciated.

There is a GM tech bulletin that pertains to your problem.
There is an intermittant fault with the transfer case shift control switch.

That I don't know, but I have replaced a few Transfer Case select switches for the concern you are describing.
Pretty much the bulletin states to replace the switch.

Re: Service 4WD Light - '01 Sub

From my local pep boys dealer, i bought a plug that you plug into the dash and it tells me a code if something is wrong, and i have a key to match the #s. When my 4wd wasnt working, it came up as my solenoid switch burnt out. My dash doesnt work as far as lights, so the service light never came on 4 me, i plan to get my lights fixed. (maby i bought a lemmon! my truck has had quite a few problems after i got my new exaust, maby they messed up some wireing or something?)

sewrvice 4WD message

I had the Service 4Wd message light come on in my 2001 burb 2500 while driving 55 mph in 2wd. Although 760 miles out of warranty I took it to my dealer. They replaced the dash switch and did a courtesy warranty. Now that's good service! Everyone should be so lucky.

Thanks for posting a nice comment about your dealer service!
There is so much dealer bashing going on in this site, its nice to hear a positive comment.

Re: Re: sewrvice 4WD message

My dad had the same problem with his '01 Silverado 2500. It was the switch. The service writer at the dealership said what she thought the problem might be, and it turns out she was right. I guess they saw a few of them! Oh well, it was covered under warranty, and the dealership got him in and out quick.

Have a good one,

Dan
