I prefer the filter route, like a K&N
you can also find filters on ebay for like $20

Example: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...category=38634

Re: ccut it out or leave it

you wouldnt really want to cut it out... just put holes in the airbox so more air is drawn in. if you want to get something aftermarket... id go ebay. as much as people say AEM or Injen or whoever is better, the piping is basically the same and with the extra money you saved you can buy a nicer filter

cut out your airbox?!? You'd kill your engine! You need your filter! If you cut out your airbox you need to get an aftermarket filter for sure! just go out and get a k&n and shop on ebay.. they're right.. you can get some stuff from a totaled car pretty cheaply

You can cut the stock aurbox all day, if its before the filter But its not the box that is the restriction, its the filter. Get a K&N and adapter for 90 bucks and drive it on. Buy the cheap ebay ones at your own risk. A turbo is a pressure multiplier. Anything you can do to reduce preturbo restriction (thereby lowering pre turbo vaccum, or increasing pressre available to multiply, however you want to look at it) will increase turbo efficiency and power. Especially on the small stock turbo that is allready stressed at stock boost levels (2g). On large turbos, reducing preturbo restriction will help lag tremendously. In my case, getting rid of the stock MAS dropped my boost threshold 200 rpm (4400 to 4200) and lag from 2k rpm after a shift to just 500.

So I say, dont cut the box, do get a K&N or equivelent. And Dejon tool mentioned above is a great vendor for piping.
