Re: exactly how easy is it to get water in ur intake?

I've got a cold air intake with no bypass on it, and I've only had problems with it once, but that was during a big snowstorm, and I think the filter got clogged with slush. The car was bogging pretty badly, it would be fine for a second, then the RPMs would drop as if I took my foot off the gas. I'd have to floor it to get them back up. But I've driven on the interstate in downpours and had no problems. Just as long as the filter isn't exposed to the open elements, you should be ok, but you could buy a bypass valve for just to cover your ass.

Installing the intake is cake, shouldn't take more than an hour. I took my front passenger tire off and routed the second pipe through the fender, behind the trim. Down a red bull or two and get to it, you'll save yourself some $.

yeah... i have a cai and havent had any problems driving in rain or even decent sized puddles... i do have all of the fender trim in place though to stop splashing as someone else said in another post

on another note: sideshow... I just realized what that picture you have is from!!! that was one of the funniest SNL skits I have ever seen we still joke about that to this day! "if the moon was a rack of ribs, would ya eat it?" "it's a simple yes or no question, just answer it so we can move on!"

hey I have a AEM cai w/ bypass valve and I can tell you that I have had not 1 single problem. I've had it for probably over 2 yrs. now and driven in everything except snow-I'm in Los Angeles-CA not much snow 'round these parts. I have driven in pretty bad rain but have not needed to use the bypass valve although its good to have anyway IMO. Have had no engine trouble either. Don't believe the people who say you will get water into the engine. The only way you will is if you run it w/o the filter in the rain or a puddle, the filter is really fucked up due to bad maintenance, or you are doing something so stupid that you probably deserve to get water in it.

As far as installation by all means do it yourself. Me and a friend did it in I would say a hour Give-or-Take five or ten min. The hardest part was taking out the oem filter it a monster but even that wasn't to difficult. Putting in the AEM CAI was easy as hell. We put it in by jacking up the car and taking the plastic guard off from underneath the car and bolting up accordingly. I have a 95 civic ex coupe. i think by youre name you have a 2001 civic? Anyway not to hard...

That would be me, about the fender trim. I know of people who have cut a hole out in the trim where the fliter is for some reason or another (probably to expose it to "more cool air.") Dumb, doesn't do anything, just exposes your filter to rain and slush. I have a CAI, left the fender/lower bumper trim in place since day one and have never had a problem. I live in rainy-ass oregon and I also do a good bit of freeway driving.

Yeah, the one where he "interviews" Jeff Goldblum. "I would. Hell, I'd have seconds, then polish it off with a cool, tall, Budweiser." And the one where he reviews 1997 with Collin Quinn is my favorite. Keeps calling him Norm.... "Hey Norm, did you gain weight?" "If you were a hot dog, and you were starving, would you eat yourself?" Funny man, that Will Ferrell.

Back in 1999 I drove through Hurricane Floyd to get to the NOPI Nationals (800 miles both way). 15 hours of rain rain and more rain with my Iceman cold air intake. No problems.

You run into problems if you don't use your head. Slow down a bit, don't drive through puddles.

Say what?
A short-ram, one that sucks air from the engine-bay is not a cold-air. The filter must be located outsie the engine bay, most every CAI intake I've ever seen sucks cooler air. But anyways, there is a slight improvement & more noise. The noise also makes it seem faster, just like exhaust.

In order to suck enough water to cause hydro-lock you must completely submerge the filter or inlet under water. Thats the only time a "by-pass valve" will come into effect, they are pretty much useless IMO - Just don't drive in 6" or more of water. Like they all said keep all slash shields in place & you should be fine. Get a 2-piece intake, one that can be changed from cold-air to short-ram. I change mine to short-ram for the winter.

An intake is an intake. They all function the same way, who cares if one flows 2cfm more than another. Intakes get air to the engine no matter what type, e-bay junker or AEM rip-off. If your a racer with a built engine, then you want that extra cfm. Besides about intakes. There is a reason why some cost more than others due to the CARB approval which some state require.

an intake is not just an itake in alot of cases with honda&acura

some open longer paths at higher rpm to get peak power out of a stock motor

go find a nice comptech intake it wont b a tube with a filter.

I totally agree with you.....ebay cai's will not give you what an aem cai would.......you're wasting your money at that point.
