Multiple problems with 2001 Grand AM

Hi folks, I need some help with my 2001 Grand AM.

Problem #1: The ABS, Trac off and service vehicule soon lights turn on sometimes and sometimes it stays off? What could be the problem.

Problem #2: The radiator fan doesn't start by itself even when the motor gets really hot. I have to turn the air conditionning on so that the radiator fan starts.

Any solutions to these problems would be helpful.

Thanks in advance.

Re: Multiple problems with 2001 Grand AM

The ABS module has seen a fault with the ABS system and has set a trouble code....if the light comes on at random, most likely the problem is intermittant.
The cooling fan is controlled by the PCM and will not turn on until the coolant temp reaches pretty close to 230 degrees.
I would recommend taking your vehicle to a knowledgable and trustworthy tech and have him check the codes and coolant fan operation.
If your car is less than 3 years old and under 36000 miles it is covered under your GM new car warranty. Take it to the dealer and repairs will be no charge to you.

Hi, thanks for your reply. I want to go see a mechanic other then a GM garage because they looked at my car before and they couldn't find any problems with it. But the problem is, I don't know any good mechanics that I can trust around my home. I also can't get those things under warranty, my car has 95,00 KM and it's 2 years old.

I also noticed something when those warning lights turn on in my dash, just when I start my car and I turn my wheels left, that's when the lights turn, other then that, they don't light up for the whole trip going to work. Weird.

Anyway, I found something else, Problem #3: In my left front wheel, their is some intermettent sound coming from it, like a scratching noise. When I go faster, the sound becomes more repetitive. But when I slow down to a stop, it really has a big scratching sound, what could it be?

Thanks for your help.

problems with 2001 grand am also

I need help also! Today I was driving my grand am, I gave it alittle gas to accelerate and it went dead. The RPM's dropped to zero and I coasted to a stop. I tried to jump start it and it wouldn't even turn over. I have heard many things that could be wrong from the fusible link to the alternator. I have no idea where the fusible link is on the grand am or what color it is. Any help anyone can give me would be greatly appreciated and can this be fixed without taking it into the shop. Can anyone tell me what is wrong? Thanks!!!!

Hopefully there is more than one GM dealer near you..try another.
Scratching sound may be the brake indicators...have the brakes checked..they may be worn out.

What year is your car?
First thing would be to check the battery and charging systems..including the battery cables for corrosion.

2001 pontiac grand am gt 6cyl

My car is a 2001 6 cylinder. We took the battery and alternator in for testing and all of that checked out ok. I gave the car gas and accelerated, could it be a fuel problem or a fusible link. We were looking for the location of the fuel line and of the fusible link, but could not locate them. Any help you can give us would be greatly appreciated. Also how can you test the relay's with a multimeter.
