I HATE being a newbie, oh well. I'm pretty much new to the 240sx, as well as the whole import seene, lol. I'm yet another victem (sp?) of the corruption of Super Street and Sport Comp, lol. Nissan has always been the only real jap company I've liked. I'm 17, I live in Blowing Rock NC (Western NC), and I own a 1986 Pontic Fiero GT. I REALLY want a 240sx though, but I can't seem to find one. I want REAL cheap, I don't much care how paint or the engine is, and I want a 5 speed. I plan on putting a SR20DET (I think that's right) engine in...or something.... And repainting it. I've found one car that matches it near me, and I bet I could get it REAL cheep, but It's an auto...how hard is it to convert to manuel? Should I take it to a shop to do? Anyone know of a good one? I've seen engine/tranny combo's for sale, is there like a 6speed or something that "bolts in" while I'm putting a manuel in? I'm quite nolagable(sp) about cars (but can't spell for shit!) and all, just not the richest nor have the most time, lol. Any help would be nice! also, what all do I need and where can I get it? Thx!
Edit: oh, I would perfer 89-94 . I like the look better for somereason... and "3 door" (does that mean fast back?)

some smart guy on the fourm once said.....
we don't take kindley to newbies and we wont spoon feed info to newbies we don't want our cars to be trends like the honda civics and all that garbage....but because i'me a newbie and they won't seem to help me much....i'll help you. i own a 93 240 coupe it automatic. but they can do a 5 speed convershion on the ka if u would like fgor 500 labor plus parts up here at hybrid dynamics, they can swap to a sr for 1000 labor and 5 speed and sr for about 1250. basicley they find a junked one at mahronies (local import yard) and they get the clut and brake assy's and a crosmember and everything else hydrolic lines they take it slap it in the automatic. as far as sr swaps....read the FAQ 5 times then read it 20 more......bookmark every link in there read up on it in ur spare time, evetualy u'll find the shops and the parts u desire, remember tho don't come on here and ask were u can buy and aluminum wing hubcaps and some led washer lights no one will talk to u ever again, if you understand the jdm consept...its Speed over looks....and if the best thing about the jdm look no big wings. its wangan wing clean look mild body kit no 19 inch chrom rims here.....fora first import car u gota lota crap ur gona take from these folks.....i dunno how exactley to proove myself to them but, to me i'me not jdm, i'me me! i like cars w/0 body kits that look clean i don't like wild shit, i like speed, i like seein good swaps like rb26dett's but my theroy is keep it in the famliey don't put ford 305's in ur nissan.....just my thing......these guys don't like newbies......but what the hell they were too at some point..... offf sumbject........yes i love s13's no i don't own a silvia i own a 240sx, and my car will never be a silvia or a rps13 or any of that it is what it is! so....go buy an auto and when u got money geta sr20 witha 5speed swap like me.....sept i been thinkin about a rb20 even tho u need sum costom intake n exaust.....no one cares to help you??? ok use google..... GOOGLE YOU MAH ONLY FRIEND! |

DON'T do up your car just because it's the latest fad, and don't do it up just to make OTHER people happy. do what YOU want to your car and don't give a fuck what other people think about it. if you build a 240SX and want to learn how to drift or get an SR20DET swap just because you saw it in Super Street and you think it'll gain you respect, then you're doing it for all the wrong reasons. do it because YOU want to and because it'll make YOU happy. me? i've had people telling me not to get a 240SX because so many people have them nowadays. i've wanted a 240SX for 6 years now, and now i'm finally at the point where i can get one. those entire 6 years, i've also wanted an SR20DET swap, WAY before anyone even knew what they were. just because a bunch of show-car newbies are buying the car and the engine doesn't mean SHIT to me. i'm going to buy my 240SX and put an SR20 into it because I want to and it'll make ME happy. i love the SR, i love the 240SX. this is why i want to build one, NOT because it's "cool", NOT because other people will think i'm "cool". i do it because i love the car and it will make me happy. if you take this attitude towards your car and actually USE it, then you will get respect in here. the only newbies that get our guff in here are the ones who come in and say something like: "i just saw a 240SX for the first time in Super Street and i read on the internet that alot of people think they're cool so i was wondering where i can get an SR20DET? and also where can i learn how to drift? i just saw drifting for the first time and all my friends think it's cool so i want to look cool and leanr how to drift." those people would not even get a reply from me, because that's EXACTLY the wrong kind of person to own this car. 240SX's are old! they're unreliable! modifications are expensive, and things will break! but in order to love the car, you have to learn to accept and respect those facts. me? i know it's an old car, and i know things will break, and that's all part of the 240SX experience. and i don't care how much it costs to modify, i want to do it because i love the car, and only the best, most high quality parts will go on my car, no matter the cost. i also want to learn to drift, not because i'll look cool, but because i love the rush and the skill and concentration that it takes. i've loved drifting for as long as i've loved 240SX's. so there's my shpiel, take it as you will. that's how i view the world of 240SX, and if you follow my simple guidelines and take the correct attitude towards your car, you will earn the respect of the "veterans" of the 240SX community. oh, and READ THE FAQ! it's there for a reason.

Anyways yeah automatic-to-conversion kits are out there, you do got to buy a new tranny and do some other tweaks. I've never done it myself so I wouldn't know how hard it is, sounds hard though. I'm a newb myself and I have asked some newb questions on the forums, but people have helped me and they aren't nasty like the way you portray them to be. I've asked help and I have received it, and for everyone that has helped me I thank them. So far I've never gotten a nasty response or anyone trying to flame me. But yeah the best source of information I have learned is just to research yourself, everyone has their own opinions and interest so there is no one right thing to do, it's all preference. I was planning on getting an SR20DET before, but after researching and reading people's responses, I'm sticking to the KA24. |

if your doin an s13 and you wanna do it cheap, look into the ca18det. thats the route i want to take with my '91. by the way, i finally go to drive the car today and the tanabe gf210 springs are nice as shit.

From what I've read/seen on maxima sites the auto-to-manual swap is a pain in the ass to do yourself. I'd get it done by a shop. The 6 speed isnt generally used for the 240SX's, not sure but I've heard they are weak. Although it doesnt seem to deter Yashio Factory. I was in the same shoes you were when I got my first 240SX, it was my first real sports car (Celica doesnt count
), wish I woulda heard of this site back then. As Iketani said, you'll do fine here as long as you stay away from asking stupid questions like the one he posted. Everyone here has been nothign but useful to me. But do like everyone has said and read the FAQ's! Welcome.

sorry, i was ina bad mood that day, but still...i've posted things that are good questions, likemy rb20 sr20 question. no one realy answerd my question, its like i missed somthing. i was in a bad mood i didn't mean to step on peoples toes. i leared everything i know from all a you guys so i thank you!

Wrong Picture
Ok, when I mentioned super street, I think some of you got the wrong damn picture! I'm NOT rice, far from, I don't want my car to look like a "junk yard" car or anything, but I also don't want it to be the first thing noticed on the road either. I've had a saying for a while, kinda lame, but "go fast BEFORE you look fast". I'm not insulting rice (kinda), I like ricers! Ricers are fun to beat because they have no Idea how a car could beat their stock civic with a 5grand body kit. lol. I perfer a bit more of the "sleeper" look. I want to repaint it a "bliz" silver or something similar. I'll probly get some body stuff, but none of that "in your face" look, some Carbon Fiber (yasho factory hood
) and mabie the grams light front end and stuff. But ALOT will be done to engine, and I plan on Tien suspension stuff. I'd like to drift some, but that's not really my style. And I'm NOT going with anything because it's a "craze", hell, if I went with the local "craze" I'd have like a 69 'stang or something! UGGLY shit! What I ment by being corruped by super street and sport compact is that I've seen and read some of the stuff about the 240 and notticed the HUGE ammount to potentional it has! So many diffrent kinds of swaps and all, and you can even put the engine of the "holey grale" in, the Skyline GT-R R33 or R34! I LOVE those things! . And it's RWD! Most Ricers have POS FWD cars that can'd do shit! especially most up here! Just had to straiten that up. And I don't really care if I have forum members respect or not, or wether I can fucking spell! I do what I want and what I like, And I don't give a shit any other way. Thx for the help guys!Razor |
