96 cav engine swap

hello im a little new to this forum so please bear with me. i have a 96 cehevy cavalier z-24. i purchased it from a neighbor and new that it had a cooling problem. i changed out the radiator fan, as it wasnt working continually blowing fuses. it ran fine for a day and then on a medium length trip ( about 45 miles or so) it overheated on the highway before i could get off the highway the temperature guage had pegged off scale high. i believe that i have blown the head gasket.
now for the question... i have the opportunity to get a 2000 2.4l twin cam engine for the car for a reasonable price. my question is this i have already been advised by the local motor head that i would be better off swapping out engines as mine has 127,000 miles on it. he also said that he wasnt sure that the engine computer systems would be compatible i would like to know if anyone out there can offer advice on this subject before i spend the money to buy the other engine any help that you can give would be appreciated
thanks

Re: 96 cav engine swap

The intakes are usually the problem when swapping these engines. If these two engines are the same block then I would suggest that you change basically everything on the outside of the engine to make sure it will fit. Good luck!!!!!!!!!!!!!
