Seatbelt warning indicator

I have a 93 nissan sentra se. She is a 4 door that i baby. I have recently had the seatbelt light and warning buzzer come on while I was driving. It has happened in many different road conditions, from wet to dry, fast to slow, short to long trips. It only comes on for a while usually (maybe stays on for a minute before going off) with the warning chime (buzzer) beeping 5 times or less. It has repeated itself a few times, and sometimes will cut off before it chimes 5 times. I wear my seatbelt, and have actually had it happen when all the belts are buckled. So I dont know if it is dependent on that. My fuses are all okay.

Any help would be appreciated. If anyone needs more details, just ask, and I will provide them to the best of my knowledge.

Mike

Re: Seatbelt warning indicator

okay, that light is connected to a sensor sorta thing in the seat belt latch. It probably went deffective, so that would explain it constantly going off, probably loose in there... If you feel you don't need the light or warning or whatever, there should be a connection underneath the driver's seat (if it isn't there, trace the wire coming from the latch). Just disconnect that and you won't ever have to worry about the light or buzzer. Now, this is only in the driver's seat, considering that the car doesn't know if there are other passengers, but there must be a driver *duh*. So the other seat belts are completely independant of the driver's belt or anything for that matter...

Re: Seatbelt warning indicator

Hi, I have the same problem. I tried disconnecting all the wires going to the seatbelt latch but still get the buzzer. Did you figure it out?

thanks

I never figured it out. I still get the buzzer on occasion, but even with it being as much of an annoyance as it is, I still can pass inspection. Im a poor college student type who has had really good luck with my sentra. 1993, and only just recently broke 50K miles on it (and yes this is still the first time around). Nothing major to fix on the thing except for some minor electrical wiring which caused my hazard lights to not work, CV joint replacement, and your standard tune up stuff, like oil, filters, and such.

If anyone has an idea on what could be happening with our seatbelt indicators, I would love to know. I havent been able to track it down myself, and mechanics seem to think it wouldnt be worth the time to check all of the wiring. Then again, I dont have the cash, so I can't blame them.

Re: Seatbelt warning indicator

The plug is just under the drivers seat. Disconnect it and see what happens. Don't take it to the shop they charge an average of $60 an hour to check out wiring.
