Question Buying a Car

Hey everyone

I'm a college student in need of a car (school is in Colorado, old pos vehicle is in Alaska). For the last 3 weeks or so, I've looked at basicly everything sporty. And, although they are quite different, I think I've narrowed it down to a 4th gen Camaro, or an early 90's 3000 GT.

I've found 2 cars on autotrader that are within a 15 mile radius of this town.

1st is a '97 Camaro RS, 78,000 miles, t-top, power-everything, $7,000.

2nd is a '92 Mitsu 3000GT SL, 50,000 miles, $8,000

So the camaro is at 200hp, 225ft-lbs
the 3000gt is at 222hp, 205ft-lbs

So I guess my question for you guys is, is that a good price for the camaro? Assuming it is in good shape mechanically and visually? I want the V-6 for insurance, I'd pay the extra gas money for a z28 otherwise.

I personally think the 3000gt looks nicer stock, but from reading these boards for a few weeks, it seems that they suffer from reliability, while camaro's seem to hold up well.

Also one last thing, how do T-tops work? I've never seen one. Do you have to manually remove the two panels?

Well thanks reading, and give me your opinions!

Re: Buying a Car

The Camaro will be faster that the 3000Gt, those things are 3800lb sleds if I'm correct. Though I will agree that the 3000GT is a nicer looking car but a nice set of rims on the RS would help it look sweet.

Food for though, yesterday I read this ad in the classifieds:

1995 Camaro Z28, pw, pl, ps, leather,
98,000 miles, one owner, T-tops, auto,
$5,500

Of course there could have been something horrible wrong with it & like you said the insurance will kill you.

hey thanks for the reply.

The VR-4 is 3,800lbs but it's packin' 320hp if I'm not mistaken
the SL and base are only 3,200lbs. So the race between the camaro rs and the 3000gt sl would be close.

Yeah, I've seen better deals on autotrader, but none that are so close.
So anyone had experiences w/ both cars?

Thanks

I've driven a few v6 Camaros. The power was decent but nothing to write home about. Alot has to do with the weight of them. Though, I've heard they respond to mods pretty well. As far as 3000GTs, I've sat in one but neve driven one. Quality interior IMHO.
