1996 Tahoe Keyless Remote Prgramming --- Help me

I simply can't find anywhere that tells me how to program my remote.
I have a 1996 Chevy Tahoe. If anyone has a clue I'd really appreciate it.

Thanks!

All you should have to do is walk up to the driver side of the vehicle and hold down both the unlock and lock buttons until the door locks reset, you should hear it and the dome light will come on. It might take up to 10 secs+. the factory says 7secs. If this doesn't work, please post what led up to you needing it reset. -good luck-

Re: 1996 Tahoe Keyless Remote Prgramming --- Help me

will this work on any 96 tahoe? I just recently bought one with a DEI alarm and remote start, but the alarm died about a week ago, and i cant find any blown fuses, or cut/loose wires. If i go and buy a remote from the dealership, will it work with my car? The door locks dont seem to be power, because when i unlock the doors with the key, it only unlocks the drivers door, and i have to push the unlock button to get the rest to unlock.

How to program 1996 Keyless Remote -- This works!

: Transmitter Programming
: When reprogramming the remote control Door Lock reciever, All transmitters must be programmed at this time in
: order for the transmitters to operate the vehicle. Transmitters not programed at this time will not work and the
: procedure will have to be redone with all the transmitters.
: 1.Ground pin 4 to pin 8 of the data link connector (DLC), (this is under the steering column where you test your computer), with
a paper clip. In other words, counting from left to right, on top row, put one end of a paper clip in slot 4 and the other end of the
paper clip in slot 8 of the DLC. The Door Lock receiver will respond by locking and unlocking. the doors, and activating the
liftgate window release (if equipped) within 2 to 10 seconds, so be patient.
: 2.Press and hold the LOCK and UNLOCK buttons simultaneously on the first transmitter to be programmed
: until the locks cycle (approximately 2 to 10 seconds), again be patient.
: 3.Repeat step 2 for up to four total transmitters to be programmed (if available). The Door Lock receiver will respond by
: locking and unlocking the doors and activating the liftgate window release (if equipped) within 2 seconds.
: 4.Remove the paper clip applied to the DLC.
: 5.Lock and unlock the doors in order to verify the transmitter operation.
: 6.Activate the rear window release in order to verify the transmitter operation.
:7 You are done!!!

No, you have something else. Do you know what alarm you have exactly? I sell DEI stuff. I bet you have it in Valet mode.

Re: 1996 Tahoe Keyless Remote Prgramming --- Help me

It is a DEI 550 HF. The alarm came with the truck, but the wiring is an absolute nightmare (t-clamps, electrical tape galore etc...). This morning, i unlocked my truck, and started it, then the panic went off (but it has no siren either, or horn honk, so only the lights were flashing), and i hit button one on the remote, it stopped....hit button one again, it "unlocked" and the lights flashed 3 times, then when i got to my destination, it wouldnt work again. Now, the wierd thing is, i havent been able to use it for a long time, and i know it doesnt have active arming activated either, so im really confused, and tempted to either get a new basic remote start/keyless entry, or remove the existing one, and see if i can just program a factory remote (if that is possible)

Re: 1996 Tahoe Keyless Remote Prgramming --- Help me

well, good news....I talked to the dealership today, and the said based on my vin, my truck originally came with keyless entry. A new remote is only $63 and since the programming instructions are on this thread, i will just buy the remote, and scrap my aftermarket one! YAY!!! Im one happy camper now....

Hi,

This is the procedure for the factory installed keyless remote

1. Short pin 4 and 8 on the DLC (Data Link Connector) After about 2 second the locks will respond with a cycle (close - open)
2. Press and hold the locjk and unlock button on the first transmitter you want to program, until the locks cycle (about 10 sec)
3. repeat step 2 for each remote (up to 4)
4. remove the short on pin 4 and 8
5. TEST OPERATION

The DLC is located under the steering wheel.
