Cruise Control help needed

I have a 2002 Buick LeSabre and just recently the cruise control stopped working. The control is on the steering wheel. If I push the ON/OFF switch, the Cruise light comes on and the cruise control works. However, now I have to HOLD the ON/OFF switch to keep the cruise working, it will not stay on by itself. When I let go of the ON/OFF switch, the cruise light goes off and the cruise control shuts off. Any suggestions on how to fix this??

turn it on, and press the set button on the stalk.

tman.. thank you for responding to my cry for help.

I can't turn the cruise on. I push the ON/OFF switch, and it's on.. but it's only on until I let go of the ON/OFF switch. While I am holding the ON/OFF switch down, I can use the SET switch.. but that only will work if I continue to hold the ON/OFF switch. Once I let go of the ON/OFF switch, the cruise control shuts off. It appears that the SET switch is working fine, but the problem is with the ON/OFF switch.

I hope the way I am explaining it makes sense to you.

Re: Cruise Control help needed

I understand what your saying, the on off switch is a toggle switch of 3 functions. on/off/(resume/accel) apparently, that lilltle switch has broken. I'd imagine you'd have to replace the whole turn signal stalk. Flatrater may be able to help.

Re: Re: Re: Cruise Control help needed

You need a new switch!! The one mounted in the steering wheel. Its easy to replace you just need a little screwdriver pry on the side of the switch it pops out unplug the switch and replace it.

Flatrater.. thank you also for responding.

My husband has a question. If he were to pry off the switch as you suggest, will it set off the air bag? He'd rather not be surprised. (grinning here.. should tell him "no" if the answer is "yes" ?? JUST KIDDING!!!!)

Thank you again for your advice.. and your patience.

If you keep the key out of the ignition there is no way for the air bag to blow! The air bag needs power to blow. And you shouldn't even come close to the bag itself.
