my suspension is squeaking real bad, on any microscopic sized bump in the road and only in the rear. I have nuespeed sport springs and stock struts, I know i need new struts but i can't afford them right now and at least i'm a step up from the $89 sleeveover/"coilovers" I had in there before.
I had the nuespeeds in without anything in between them and the struts, and they squeaked horribly. so i put rubber plumbers gasket material cut out in circles on top of the coil bucket/cup and greased them and they still squeak. any suggestions would be forever appreciated, I am to the point where i don't like driving my car now cause it sounds so bad. on top of that my rear passenger side has a clunk/knock i don't know what that is AT ALL. I think maybe bushings? Is a blown strut audible? could that be it? could it be my strut tower bar? it's not a good one, just one of the hinged no name ones. but it's torqued down tight. The squeak is more important, i REALY need to fix that before it drives me insane and i run the car into a pole.

Who installed your springs?
Since you don't have money, it may be difficult to follow this suggestion but bring your car to a dealership service center so they can inspect the suspension and replace worn or missing bushings. |

Re: driving makes me sad now....
Try lubing all suspension bushings(front/rear). Its hard to say what it is without hearing it, it may also be your shocks. How long have you driven on the stock shocks, lowered? How much did you have it lowered with those crappy coilover sleeves?
I have never heard a strut bar make noise, any thing is possible. Every moving part should be lubeb in some way. Easy to fix a noise: Turn the radio up or install an exhaust |

they were on the shitty "coilovers" from the middle of july to the beggining of september. then i changed over to the nuespeeds. I installed them myself, which i've done a million times before, just since this time happens to be on MY car it has to be fucked. what kind of lube would you suggest for the bushings? I think it's the springs rubbing on the strut when it comes to the squeak, i'm just not sure what to do about it, i'm going to try wrapping the bottom couple coils with rubber or conduit or something and lubing it all up. hopefully that works.
I have a feeling the bushings are shot (after 95,000 miles of SoCal freeway traffic they should be). Which means I need to come up on $200 to get some energy suspension bushings and find someone with a hydraulic press to get the stock ones out. Hopefully that'll clear up the klunk and get rid of my steering wheel wobbles I get between 70 and 80 mph. anybody else have any idea? if I recorded the sounds and posted a sound clip would it help?

Re: driving makes me sad now....
It could be the springs moving around
Use a spray silicone grease - white lithum // all-purpose also works. If one noise bothers you, wait til the poly bushings are installed. When was the last time your wheels were balanced? |

Re: Re: driving makes me sad now....
I would just get some poly urethane bushings. My bro had a problem like that and it was because the stock bushings in between the spring hat and the spring were worn down to nothing. His new bushings that I installed for him made it go away. But that was the case for his car. Can't really tell if I can't hear it myself.

Re: driving makes me sad now....
The bushings can be very noisy if not lubed well or during cold weather. They also will have change on ride quality(stiff/vibrate) & get worse with colder weather.
If you have never been in car with a bushing kit installed, I suggest taking a ride before installing on your daily driver. If you do install make sure you lube the hell out of them, more than what comes with the kit and also keep them clean during install. |

Once lubed, the squeaking immediately stopped.
