paint job done, new pics in

finally got the car back today, gone three days. i got a "cheap" maaco job... came out to $850 with everything painted, door jams, under hood, etc.

here's how it looked before

here's how it looks now

the car isn't even 100% clean in those pics, it was a lil dusty. i was very skeptical about a maaco paint job, but if i had another car to paint, i wouldn't hesitate to go there again. highly recommended if you're in need of a paint job and do not have a show car.

still waiting for weatherstripping for the ttops and spoiler, so that will go on by the end of next week.

coming soon:
- full new black interior (including dash, steering wheel, trim, etc)
- sports seats
- full 3" exhaust piping and magnaflow 3" straight through muffler with 4" tip
- new weatherstripping (ttops and spoiler)
- new taillights
- new turning signals
- new headlights

Looks great!!! I have a few questions. Did Maaco do the 400 grit pre-paint sanding and taping off or did you for $850? Did they bake the car after painting it? I am just curious because I am going to be getting my 91 240sx painted soon. Any thoughts or advice greatly appreciated.

thanks for the comments guys. remember it is dirty in the pics, i didn't even wash it yet. it was covered in dust. the car just shines pretty good.

here's what i got from maaco:

Value Prep w/ Universal Sealer - 129.95
Ambassador Paint - 229.95
Door Jambs w/Trunk and Hood - 300.00 (75/opening)
Body Work - 100.00 (dent and cuts in front fender, bad back bumper)
Materials & Supplies - 30.00
Sublet - 5.00
-----------------
Total: 794.90
w/tax: 858.49

i tell you it really shines when it's right in front of you. my one friend said his one friend's car was stolen when he dropped it off at maaco, and i heard countless stories of how crappy it is. i have NOTHING bad to say about them, only good things.... the paint needs a very minor touchup here and there, but overall its awesome. remember, i got black, the best color for painting a car... it should last 5-6 years at least, while if you get another color on the car with the ambassador paint, it may only last 2-3 years. black lasts longer and doesn't fade.

also BEHOLD! i purchased a casio exilim ex-z4 4mp digital camera, with the ability to capture 60 sec video clips and sound. i should get it sometime at the beginning of next week... by the time i get it my exhaust will be on and i'll take tons of very high res pics of my car and some sound clips.... to be followed by, yes, you guessed it,...... STREET RACING VIDS. hopefully i will be able to get you guys some good ones.

Usually I hate what you do with cars, but this is acceptable

Just don't put a bunch of nismo stickers on this one unless you actually put nismo shit on it ...even if it's just urethane suspension bushings and/or a Nismo (automatic) shift knob

Remember to always keep at least a layer of wax on it too. That way the paint will last infinatly longer. I use Mothers 3-Step, and every 2 weeks (during winter) I put another coat of wax on, so there's always something between the paint and nasty things in the air. Only takes an hour, and is totally worth it. During summer you only need to do it once a month or so.

Ok, but that doesn't really answer my question. Did you (or Maaco) give the car a 400 grit wet sanding in preperation for the paint? I was told that all Maaco does is spray the paint on the car. No prepping. What is "Value Prep w/ Universal Sealer? Let me know. No doubt, the car looks fantastic. Is that the car you sold your 90 240sx for???

i think so, but probably not as good as black black is very common for them to do, and they do a purty darn good job. my guessing is that the white would probably come out pretty good too, i'd think about it. also ask to see some other cars that they've done, i saw two other black ones before they painted mine, and it didn't look too bad. but when i got mine it looked even better.

i thought about it for about 2 miliseconds.... i didn't do it because that's just a lil too ricey for me... all black is real smooth (and easier to sell)

i have no clue! lol. i know they primed/prepped it with something, and i know they at least sanded the top of the car. for the money, if you want a cheapass paint job you really can't beat them.

yep! with the car shipped to me, and the paint job, it costs exactly the same for what i sold the 240 for. only downturn is the pitiful gas mileage, but for a low 14 sec car that is completely stock who cares. the only thing i was worried about when i bought the car was the look of it, but i'm taking care of that the whole newish black interior should get it to really look good.
