Question Questions:Changing auto to 5spd

There is a beutiful Yellow 1986 MR2 NA for only $1000!! I would like to buy it, but there is one major problem with it, it is an Automatic !!!

So I had a few questions about changing it from auto to 5spd:

How much would it cost? Would it be worth it?
Would it have a bad effect on the car's reliability?
Has anyone on here done it??

Any input would be greatly apreciated. Thanks.

-Nate

I admitt, I am not a toyota guy whe it comes to modding, so I don't know if this holds simalier with your toyota. I know of auto-manual conversions being done for $1500 a lot of times, maybe $2000 sometimes (depending on what you choose), with Hondas. Again, I know you have a toyots, and I don't know if this will hold true. Anyways, just thought I'd thorw that out there for yea, good luck.

I don't really know how much, but here are parts you may need, if you itemized the price, it may help.

Transmission, Clutch pedal, clutch disc, pressure plate, control cables, shift selector (stick assembly), radiator (automatic trans cars usally use the radiator to warm transmission oil. you may be able to plug the un-used hoses) Clutch master and slave cylinder along with lines, Clutch/brake fuid resevior (some cars used separate resevior, other tap into the brake resevior) clutch start switch with wires and harness (need to attached to neutral start harness from auto transmission)

These are just what I can think of at the moment. Auto trans ECU usally need to know what mode the gear selector is set to.
