Question Does the motor have to lift to replace the oil pan gasket?

Does anybody know if the engine has to be raised to replace the oil pan gasket on a 91 Crown Victoria LX? From what I hear, you have to raise the engine because the oil pan won't drop far enough to clean gasket surfaces, etc. In other words, it's an expensive job to do. Am I right???

I have the 93 vick and yes the easyest way is to lift the motor leaving the trans hooked up. you might want to replace the oilpan as well because they tend to rust through. My oilpan is leaking but not the gasket yours might be the same thing.

Re: Does the motor have to lift to replace the oil pan gasket?

A '91 had a 302, and it's not the same gasket as the later 4.6L which is a steel impregnated viton gasket which is reuseable.

Not only does the engine need to be lifted, but almost certainly completely removed for a proper job to be done.

Re: Does the motor have to lift to replace the oil pan gasket?

I had my 93 done, Only needed to be lifted about 5 inches, Just unhook motor mounts, check rear heater hose assembly(carefull) and voila, out comes to old rotted pan and in with the new
It can be done easily
