has anyone had any major problems with there FD and had a costly repair and do u have often breakdowns of ur car?

They are great cars. The ones you hear about with blown engines are either:
A. Not well maintained and beat on
B. Modded heavily and pushed past its limits as far as tuning.

My dad just bought a FD with a blown engine from a guy that fits category A. Mazda refurb engine rebuilt turbos and then a trip to Pettit racing for a $1000 in reliability mods. The car is bulletproof now. As long as he warms it up and cools it down properly and changes the oil every 3K miles he will not have a problem.

My brothers 87 RX-7 has 150K miles on it and its modded. My friends 88 Turbo RX-7 had 250K miles on it and the engine blew during a 150 MPH highway run. His car is modded too.

Theres nothing like getting over 300 HP out of 80 cubic inches.
