i just installed a new intake on my car and i had two hoses coming out of my stock air pipe and i only have one place to put 1 hose. i put the big one coming out by the sparkplugs on to it and i have another one that is near the top of the intake and its small and i have no idea what to do to it i really need some advice. also, my engine is a hell of alot louder. not from the intake filter not the hissing, the engine itself is louder than it sounded before

Re: New cold air intake
Thats weird. The intake should have come with all the proper fittings to put the hoses back into. One should not just be sitting out, even though it probably jus runs back to a regulator. The engine always sounds louder though when you put on an intake because the stock air box is what keeps that engine sound muffled. Plus more air is going into the engine now so it will run better.

Buy a "T" fitting, use it to plug both hoses in to, then plug that into the intake
Observe my crappy ASCII drawing, the red represents the t fitting you need ................................_______________ ...............................|.......................| ...............................|......ENGINE.......| .............-------------|______________| .............|....................................| .............|....................................| .............|______________________| ................................... | ....................................| ..............._____________|_________ ...........................INTAKE ..............._______________________ |

the hissing is normal simply because the engine is letting more air in. As for the hoses...as long as you dont have a vacuum leak, they really arent important to hook up.

I had that same problem when I installed the intake, so I took it out. I think one of them is for the EGR connected to the resonator, and the other one connects to the intake manifold. I tried plugging up those vacuum hoses with caps.
Also something bad about not connecting those 2 extra tubes, I noticed that the rev sustains a second longer all by itself. Meaning, you bump the gas, but the engine keeps reving for 1 second longer. As for the engine getting louder, probably because the ECU isn't used to this change |

Im pretty sure you could just buy a breather filter and stick it on the end. Those are the little bity cylnidrical filters you see on some high powered domestics or harleys etc. Goto jcwhitney and find one. Correct me if I'm wrong, but All they really need is filtered air, (I dont think the pressure sensor is outside the tube until you buy an aftermarket one), so just make sure they dont get a bunch of dirt in them by filtering them somehow.
You might be able to find one at an auto parts store (whitch I would suggest), but look on jcwhitney.com and search for breather filter if you dont know what they are. HTH Buzz1167 Jon N |
