Well, for one, if you have a Z28, then you should already have a V8 LT1 that's a 350. If it is a V6, then it's not a Z28.
Secondly, if you do have a 94 V6, then an LT1 shouldn't have a problem bolting in there. It's technically a 346, but that's neither here nor there...

Re: 350
I read the lt1 was a 350ci & the ls1 was a 346ci though I read that on some import forum so it was probably wrong.

They're both 5.7L motors, which equal 346 cubic inches...

thanks for the reply. one more question, does it have to be an lt1 in order to fit in the camaro, or can I just buy a 350 small block chevy(i want more horsepower than what lt1 has to offer) and install it without having to do any serious rearranging? thanks again

Well, the V8's that bolt right into a 94 Z are going to be LT1-derived powerhouses. An LT1 383 would be one that started as an LT1 350 and was bored over to get 383 cubes. I think that's how it works...

Re: 350
When comparing a stock pre-LT1 350 vs a LT1 350, the LT1 has more horsepower (and reliablity). But if you are wanting to modify either enige, the LT1 will cost you more on some of the parts (intake, heads, fuel system).

i dont think u understood my question. i meant to ask if a non-LT engine would bolt up to it. like a 350 smallblock or something. and what's so good about the lt1 engine? its only like 275-305hp no?

350
The difference in a 350 LT1 and a reg. 350 is the LT1 comes factory stock w/ 275-305 hp but it will last longer because it has a 4340 steel crank and special lite weight pistons. If you rubuild an LT1 and put just any piston they will be too heavy and to big. Yes a reg 350 will bolt up to your car( same block bolt pattern). Also A 383 is bored over but it has a 400 cubic inch crank in a 350 block. the crank length is the same as the 350 but the stroke is different. It produces alot of low end tourqe as well as top end power. good luck

Re: 350
If you look at the sales sticker on an LS1 camaro or trans am, does it not say "5.7L V8"???? Ive never heard it advertised as a 5.6L. Besides if you round off what amount it is in litres, it gets rounded upto 5.7L. They are both 5.7L engines, just different blocks and the displacement is a little off.
As far as fitting an older 350 into your 94, they should all fit no problem. You may need different motor mounts but I dont see any reason why you couldnt stuff one in there because they arent really any different in overall size. |

Re: 350
liters cant be acuratly comparted to CI really. proving my point, how is a 302, 305, and a 307 all 5.0 liters. it is all just rounded.
and just asking to maybe give unforgiven something else to think about, but, will he have to swap his trany out too or is the bell housing the same patern?

Re: 350
Ok, he is right, a 350 smallblock is 350ci in dispacement, an Lt1 is 350 inches in displacement, but an LS1 in 346 in displacement, as yes, it is a totally different engine so the bore and stroke are completely different. And a 383 is a Stroked 350 not bored.
