new to the forum...

Hello all forum members,

I have just bought my first crown-vic, a 1994 standard model with 73k miles. It is a beatiful car; mint in and out. I will be asking questions and watching other members posts in order to gain knowledge on some minor upgrades that I can put into my car to get the most out of it - performance and handling.

I have above average mechanical skills, but have never owned a crown vic before. I was raised on V8 motors and 4-barrels back in the seventies.

My first questions are:

1) can I upgrade from a single exhaust to a dual exhaust system.

2) what kind of shocks, or other suspension upgrades, might be available to sure-up the ride on southwest Florida's rain soaked highways.

3) what are the largets tires/wheels that a crwon vic would handle.

4) where can I get custom accessories to jazz up the outside (window flares, headlight covers etc.).

I look forward to corresponding on this great subject of crown victoria cars.

thankyou for welcoming me to your forum.

NJ-Rube

Post largest tires

Well I don't really know about the other questions but on the largest tire question I can tell you this:
I own a 1993 LX with 15" black steel rims.
I bought 235/75/15 which is about 29" in diameter. They are wonderful but they touch (just a little bit) the front inner fender plastic. But that is unnoticable unless the tires are wet, then you can hear a little screeching sound. But I love that size a lot! I would recommend them to you if you want big rubbers!!

Re: new to the forum...

1) Easily, with a "take-off" exhaust from a CVPI or similar.

2) The factory Ford shocks for the CVPI are more firm than the ones you have, and they are very reasonabally priced. Other options are Edlebrock IACs and Bilsteins.

3) You can install rims and tires from a Marauder if you want, 18" would be their size. Other common rim diameters are 16" and 17" aluminum, available on the LX and Sport models.

4) Don't know.

See www.crownvic.net for even more info on modding your new car.

Dual exhaust is no problem, same as the PD cars. The tire can go to 235-60-16 on most CV and Marq as they were options. The 235-75 are too tall, stay with 70 or lower. Shocks and stuff, use towing rated type, you can change the springs to PD style, for a stiffer ride.
