Cylinder Head

I've been trying to clean the mating surface off for a while using gasket remover, plastic paint scrappers, and cotton cloths. There are some difficult spots that don't seem to be comming up so I was thinking of using more abrasive material, perhaps a green scotch-brite pad, but I am not sure how far I can go. I am concerned with maring the surface, aluminum transfer, ect. So I thought I would ask those who have done it what techniques, chemicals, and materials you all used. I should add that it seems most of the gasket material is gone and I am having trouble with the adhesive in particular.

Since it is advisable to inspect the head before installing it what is a reasonable price for a preasure test and or milling.

Thanks.

Dont use any metal disk on your heads or any mating surface for that matter. You shouldent use because of the new gaskets not sealing because like you said basically you can damage the surface your trying to clean. What you should use is a die grinder or drill(if you dont have a compressor) with 3M Roloc Bristle Disc, they are plastic and do not hurt the metal surface at all just cleans I have used them before and work great. Link below is what they look like, you may be abile to get some at a body shop or paint supply house maybe local parts store.
