gtech vs the track

ok so i know fellow af member carrrnuttt has a gtech on his ride. This weekend, i got to borrow fellow af member accordztech's gtech and i got in about 4 runs. My best time was 16.92 @ 83.2 mph. This is with a slipping clutch.

Anyhow, i know there have been threads on this before, but how would you guys say your gtech compares to your track run. I dont plan to ever go to the track, because i feel confident in the gtechs ability to give me an accurte time, and although the possiblity of being caught while using a gtech looms, i still like it better than having to pay $30 to go to a track and wait in a long ass line.

Currently i am in an arguement with people on another forum who say the gtech is far less accurate than the track. The only review i have read on it is on gtechs website, and i tend not to believe those, because i am an avid believer in independent reviews.

Overall i am impressed with my run and that i was able to break 17's. I also am impressed because i am not far behind fellow af member 91ef3zc who has a sohc zc in a 91 civic si hatch, and he ran a 16.4. I ran slower because i still have dx dual point fuel injection. I am confident that if i converted my car over to multi point, i could hit low 16's. I have read on another 4th gen civic enthausiast site about the guy dropping almost a full second on a stock 89 dx hatch after doing the conversion.

they are fairly accurate for 1/4 mile times, but when it comes to trap speeds they suck.

I believe I've seen numerous go to the track and use gtechs farthest I've seen them off was a few tenths of a second.

They're accurate within a few thousandths of a second.

Reason why the Trap speeds are off is because at the track, your trap speed is actually recorded about 100ft from the finish line... thus it's a bit lower. The Gtech measures your trap for the entire 1320ft run, which means its trap will be a bit higher... usually they are with in 2-3mph.

No, your gtech time does not count in your internet race that you're having currently. The gtech time on a rural road does not hold water to a track time on a prepped track.

He explained why he used the Gtech, if you have a problem with that then keep it to yourself.

As for the Gtech accuracy, well they are like all computers, garbage in equals garbage out.
If mounted properly and calibrated properly then they can be very accurate, but Iv seen some crazy results from people mounting them in funny places, or not attaching them securly to the car.
But the biggest problem most people have with them is useing them to calculate hp. If the cars exact weight, including driver and any passangers is used then they can be surprisingly accurate, but most people use the manufactors weight, which will always be quite differnt, and usualy results in a very wrong number.

Since I was posting for my brother, and since those words were his and not my own, your assumption that I'm an ignorant dickhead is in fact ignorant on your part. You know nothing of me, and if you did, you'd know that I was one to help keep the peace around here. I've never tried to flame anyone. Since you can't see that my posting the first part was a joke reflects again on your ignorance, Moppie. The second part was where I put my two cents in on what I thought of the gtech, showing more insight due to the fact that I actually know the story behind his questions in the thread, which stems from several IF threads. This is how my brother is involved.

The fact that this board is here is why I put my opinion on the board, just like you did. I'm not gonna keep it to myself, that's not the purpose of this board, but I'm sure you got to be a moderator by keeping your opinions to yourself. If you had a problem with me, you should have taken it to a PM.

hey...it didn't say u were running 11.4@100029mph, so...its pretty close aye? hehe...

j/k buddy, they're pretty close, all the friens i've ever heard use them were within a tenth or so to wut they ran at the track.

the BIGGEST thing is road conditions. if the road is on a bit of an incline or decline, obviously that'll throw it off. if there are bumps, then that'll throw it off a little. the track is stickier than any road i've been on etc...

so its close, but its not going to be perfectly accurate to wut u'd run at the track, more like wut u'd run on the street.
