'check engine' light

can I reset the check engine light by disconnecting the battery on a pre 1996 BMWs which did not have an OBD-II connection?

also why do I get the 'check coolant' warrning while my reservoir is filled, and the sensor connections are clean and in place. possible bad sensor?? if so can it be purchased seperate or it comes with the reservoir?

Don't know about the Check Engine reset but the level sensor on the washer fluid reservoir can fail and give the false warning. Mine failed when washer fluid finally leaked in and shorted the float switch. The replacement switch was an OEM replacement from the dealer (<$20) and the installation was quick and easy. Of course this was on an E30 where you could actually get to the washer fluid reservoir. Hope your situation is similar.

The check engine light will go out if you disconnect the ecu. open the case on right side near the firewall, should be three computers in there, the middle one is usually the engine controller. Disconnecting the battery will be easier, but you'll code the radio. You do have the radio code, right? Unless it's aftermarket. The coolant sensors go bad all the time, sold seperately. hope it helps.
